Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 As long as Putin keeps power and the Ukraine war drags out, yes, probably How many flagrant violations of the "no politics rule" is Jim going to be allowed to commit? The guy is just openly flaunting the rules at this point. I recommend a life time ban.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan BREAKING: Catcher Sean Murphy has been traded to the Atlanta Braves, sources tell ESPN. Wow! Now the Braves have three catchers Wasn’t there a tweet saying this last week that they shot down?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Murphy will take one look into AA's eyes and sign his prime away for nothing. Let's see if this trade finally opens up a path to a Jays/catcher trade.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Seems like this is a good scenario for the Jays. Braves weren't an obvious trade fit and the options for the remaining teams are dwindling.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Unless William Contreras suddenly becomes available
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 This would make more sense as opposed to the Braves getting Murphy and holding on to 3 catchers.

I don't see how he is breaking the politics rule... the rule allows passive aggressively talking left wing politics but does not allow any right wing politics. Implying inflation is caused by Putin is totally within the rules, now if you were to respond implying that inflation was caused by policy mistakes by the Bank of Canada and Trudeau that would be out of line and you would get the lifetime ban.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Wouldn't mind a 4 way with the Jays.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Contreras to the Brewers is a good outcome for the Jays too. They don't have a whole lot that they could trade to us.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Contreras looked like he had some good numbers last year, is only 24, and over a full season would have put up more WAR than Murphy. Is this a real big upgrade for them?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Yeager + Muller + Contreras + Tarnok This is a weird trade Contreras has substantial value as a good young catcher. It's not often that you see the centrepiece of the trade flipped in a 3-way deal like this. Most of the time the selling team wants to centrepiece and the third team just gets involved to make the rest of it work. Esteury Ruiz SUCKS Oakland is just stupid.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Muller, Tarnok, and Ruiz is a pretty good haul. A bit surprised that the difference between Contreras and Murphy was worth Muller, Tarnok, and Yeager to Atlanta.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Leave it to the A's to pull off a bizzare three team trade with an underwhelming return. Looks like the Brewers did pretty well here though?

Looks like the Brewers did pretty well here though? Contreras + Yeager for Ruiz seems pretty fair. Honestly, at first glance I like it least for the Braves. But I might be overrating Contreras. Maybe he's a really bad receiver or something.

Ron tokama Verified Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 so where do we trade Jansen now? At this point it looks like he’s gonna be starting in AAA with Kirk starting and Moreno as the back up in the majors(barring an injury). Atkins has completely messed up this off season and made this team worse.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Banned Ron for being a stupid troll

Arizona, Boston, both Chicago teams, Cleveland, Houston, LAA, Miami, Minnesota, San Diego, San Francisco, are all at least notionally trying to win and have weak catching.

Yeah this basically means the Jays own the catching market right now, with teams like the Astros/Cleveland/Cubs looking to add

Looks like the Brewers did pretty well here though? How do they consistently make s***** trades while dealing stars at least once per year? Its insanity.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 One thing is for certain, I’d rather have teams acting like the Mets and Padres than the s***** A’s Poverty franchise
