James Click was named the Astros GM in Jan 2020

Here are the players on their roster acquired during his GM tenure:

Yainer Diaz

Mauricio Dubon

Hector Neris

Ryne Stanek

Seth Martinez

I dunno. Maybe the thinking in Houston is that Click had little impact. The players play the games and the core was in place before Click.

Your list is not accurate, missing a big piece of their pen.

Trades or signings not made sometimes takes more skill then a signing or a trade.

Especially off the heels of a WS win

MLBTR

The Houston Astros have fired assistant general manager Scott Powers, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. This comes on the heels of the firing of general manager James Click from earlier today. As noted by Passan, Click hired Powers away from the Dodgers back in January.

The Astros parting ways with Click was the first domino to fall in a surprising sequence of events following the Astros winning the 2022 World Series. Despite reports of friction between Click and owner Jim Crane, it had been speculated by many that a World Series victory would nonetheless be enough to overcome those tensions and keep the gravy train rolling. Instead, it seems that the hurdles have been too high to mount, despite the Astros emerging triumphant in 2022. After Click was removed from the picture, it had been hypothesized that some of his hires would also be let go, and that has indeed come to pass with Powers getting sent out the door behind Click.

Who was pushing for trading Urquidi for Contreras?

I believe Click had the deal finished and Crane vetoed it

And it's rumoured that Dusty was against it

He got a two year deal. Everybody else got fired or essentially asked to leave.

What led to rift between Astros' Jim Crane, James Click?

October reports hinted at a vague rift between Click and Crane, but the World Series champs not retaining the top baseball executive for the following season is unprecedented in the contemporary, front-office-centric history of the sport. The last top baseball executive to depart a World Series winner before the beginning of the following season was the Yankees' Larry MacPhail in 1947 — the product of an incident during the celebration where he drunkenly punched a writer, among other antics.

… just when you think you know baseball history, there’s still always a funny story out there

Montero back with the Astros for 3/$34.5m.

The RP market is very expensive, and Atkins hates spending money on the bullpen. Trade route looks more likely.

There’s pretty much no money commitment to our current bullpen. It’s guys on cheap short term deals or guys or not even arbitration eligible. It would be very strange to give one of these guys 40m he would instantly make more than our entire bullpen combined.

$182.5M committed to three relievers so far. FA prices are going to be insane.

That’s ridiculous amounts of money for him. There’s been years where he doesn’t even look like a big leaguer.

Such an awful deal. The dude posted a 6.49 ERA in 2021 and every season other than 2019 and 2022, had an ERA above 4.

Really think the Astros overbid themselves. He's not worth $11M+ per season especially with his shaky track record. I guess those 14 saves helped jack up his price.

I think the Padres and Astros really outbid themselves. I don't see any other team offering Suarez and Montero those types of contracts.

Mets went all in with Diaz, and I while wouldn't be comfortable signing him to that type of contract, though he's on a different level at least than those two.

Nah, Yandy is a s***** 3B. 1B only going forward

I know the Rays want to keep Mead from being a 1B only guy. But learning 3B in the majors is a bad idea. Diaz is horrible but at least he has the range and arm. Last I saw Mead he had neither. It is the Rays and they will move a million guys around and he will get chances but Walls is easily their top defender at 3B, but of course they likely won't get him 400 PAs again unless the bat drasticly improves. I picture Mead as a LF long term.

Would rather sign an arm like Kimbrel or Jansen to a 1-year contract worth $10-12M which is what the estimates are rather than 3 years on Montero at 34M.

Jansen is going to suck with the pitch clock. He's the slowest RP in baseball I think.

This relief market is making the Garcia and Bass/Pop deals age very well.

Yimi would probably get significantly more than $5.5M today.

deGrom toiling away with the Rangers would be very sad.

Any relation to the Schitt's Creek Rose family?

Yet the Brewers turned down the $3M option for Boxberger. Seems so strange.

Texas is a good state to finish a career. Not sure if he has ties to there already
