Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 RULE 5 Draft https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/11/the-opener-diaz-injuries-rule-5.html The deadline to add players to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 draft is November 15th this year. Seeing as there was no R5 draft last offseason, teams will likely have more players to protect than usual, which could lead to roster crunches across baseball. This could also lead to some players getting cut from 40-man rosters a few days ahead of November 18th’s non-tender deadline, and some minor trades such as yesterday’s Sam Hilliard deal between the Rockies and Braves. Overall, with these dates being earlier on the offseason calendar, fans should expect a larger quantity of winter moves to happen in this first week of the offseason than in recent years, though said moves won’t necessarily be at the top of the free agent market.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2471822 MLB Hall of Fame 2023 Contemporary Baseball Era Ballot Albert Belle Barry Bonds Rogers Clemens Don Mattingly Fred McGriff Dale Murphy Rafael Palmeiro Curt Schilling Will be interesting to see how this goes. Obviously Bonds, Clemens and Schilling should get in. Palmeiro is a name you never really hear about, but if we're letting in roid guys - I think he should also get the nod with 569 HRs and a career WAR of 70. I'd love to see the Crime Dog get in....he's the best of the non steriod guys. Donny Baseball was really only great for 4 seasons. He gets far too much love IMO.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Diaz contract is not the norm because historically multi year FA contracts to relievers has been very poor. Teams are generally smarter than the Mets. Relievers are so volatile, even the best of them Elite bats tend to stay elite. Even good relievers often have a terrible season here and there. I wouldn't want to give any RP this kind of AAV or term. But Steve Coen told the world he wants to win 2-3 World Series, so he will attempt to do so at any cost obviously

Screw Mattingly, he wouldn't shave his sideburns when he worked at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. So selfish.

People pointed Olerud had not much power and no 30 homer seasons. However he did have two .350 seasons 8 WAR seasons should count for something... shouldn't they. Eyeballing it Olerud has more lifetime fWAR and better peak seasons then Belle, Mattingly, McGriff, Murphy. better peak than Palmeiro. Nothing too much better to talk about. I will concede it's not just Cito's fault. Though I think Olerud's career would look a lot of better with the missing 600 PAs. Olerud, like Mattingly and Dale Murphy also fizzled out a bit early. No good seasons after 33. Palmeiro and McGriff both had several good seasons after 33.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 If I remember right, even in his prime years, Mattingly’s back became a big issue before he fell off. But no wouldve could’ves in the HOF. Unless it’s Negro leagues
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Rafael P. probably makes it in if he doesn’t do that big speech in front of Congress pointing his finger. That will keep him out. Other than that, I think his failed test would’ve gone under the radar

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 He can't hit a fastball anymore. Just not a statement a top contender should make unless they think it helps sign Judge. Considering Donaldson is such as ass, I highly doubt that.

He's 32, projects poorly and has had a litany of injuries which have mostly kept him off the diamond since 2019. If he'll come on a minor league deal sure. Otherwise it's a hard pass.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Anderson got murdered in AAA this year with no strikeouts. The Rays would only do this if his stuff was horrible.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 We saw how dominate he could be. No guarantee he gets back to that but absolutely worth the gamble. When you’re desperate for good relief pitching no stone should be left unturned.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Jake Odorizzi would have been a nice target as a No. 4 or 5 starter for depth. He picked up his player option before the trade and Braves are eating $10 of the $12 million which is pretty sweet. Rangers just had to part with Kolby Allard.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 The last time Anderson was good Brad Hand was good. And some people took a crying fit when we gave up a dime a dozen AAAA catcher for him.
