saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 I'd be moderately surprised if teams haven't been negotiating with agents during the lockout. There could be a flurry of deals immediately after the deadline. I was just going to post that. How many deals do we get tonight?

Anyone who thinks this was on the up and up on during the lockout is a clown.

That may not have even been against the rules.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Teams almost certainly talked to free agents and other GM's during the lockout. It's like the NBA where teams can't legally talk to free agents until a certain time but then signings are announced within minutes. I'd be surprised if we don't see a similar flurry tonight.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 f***...what is Ross Atkins thinking right now. He's not going to sleep for the next 4 days.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 f***...what is Ross Atkins thinking right now. He's not going to sleep for the next 4 days. FOr arbitration eliglble players... the numbers exchange must be done by March 22, but any hearings that need to happen wont take place until the season has already started. THat's a lot of pressure on the GMs to get good deals in place ASAP. Players for the Jays that are arbitration eligible for 2022: Ross Stripling Teoscar Hernandez Adam Cimber Trevor Richards Ryan Borucki Danny Jansen Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Tim Mayza Trent Thornton Cavan Biggio
Davie Verified Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Would rather we used some of our prospect capital to get somebody like Ramirez from Cle than sign Freeman. Moving Guerrero Jnr to 3B scares me

Moving Guerrero Jnr to 3B scares me I'd rather sign Freeman just so he doesnt end up hitting between Stanton and Judge in New York. Or... do both.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Gonna be a short fast frenzy to start snapping guys up now....

Moving Guerrero Jnr to 3B scares me Ramirez will be a free agent in 2 years and i doubt we will be able to afford him with all the other guys being paid or needing to be paid by then? I'd prefer to save the prospect capital and just spend money on Bryant now so it won't matter if he leaves us in 3/4 years.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Well… yeah looks like there wasn’t anything being finalized before the CBA

The Canadian dollar does seem stable versus USD at least for now (worth about 78 cents US). But world events being what they are, you can't predict how it will look 2 months from now let alone 2 years out........

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I was promised a frenzy lmao I know might as well be locked out again same s*** happened lol. Nobody wants to admit who the best at tampering lol
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I was promised a frenzy lmao I refuse to believe teams, players, agents, etc weren’t talking during the lockout so I guess everyone wants to wait to avoid looking like they were tampering. A frenzy is coming though. They have no choice. Spring training starts this weekend basically so teams will need to start filling out their rosters.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 I have a 4 day weekend and I'm just sitting here waiting. s*** had better go down soon.
Key22 Verified Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Not sure this has been mentioned but with rumours being the Jays expressed interest in Freeman and teams looking at the younger Olson on the trade front why is it assumed that the Jays would consider moving to Vladdy to 3rd? Certainly, you want him in the field but Vlad isn't the slowest guy in the world and he has a terrific arm so why not consider him in Right Field? I mean they always used to stick the all bat no glove types in the corners. I mean Manny Ramirez and Jose Canseco were big oafs and they managed to win WS titles.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Apparently they have been hard after Bryant....we shall see.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Apparently they have been hard after Bryant....we shall see. I mean, when was the last time a signing wasn't leaked WELL in advance of a press conference? I feel like we'd know if this was a signing thing.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Maybe he's announcing that the Mariners intend to miss the playoffs for a 21st consecutive season.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports that teams who have seen Carlos Rodon's medicals say they are "actually very good." Rodon's health history -- which includes a shoulder issue that resulted in a velocity dip late last season -- is his biggest question mark. However, Martino is hearing that, at least for now, the left-hander is fully healthy. Martino mentions the Mets as a possible landing spot for Rodon, and the Yankees reportedly have looked into him, as well.

If we strikeout on Freeman and Ramirez, I pivot to Rodin and stack our rotation. Espinal is looking super jacked, maybe he has a breakout from last year? And we have Moreno, Smith & Groshans pushing for a debut this year potentially.

I'd definitely be finding out what type of deal Rodon is looking for. If it's short term, I'd be all over it. I still find it difficult to believe the Jays will try to lock up a long term 3rd baseman with Orelvis, Groshans (and/or Moreno) on the cusp. I still think a short term fix is the way to go. We need a long term fix in CF IMO.

As far as pitching, based on what I have seen, Jays seem to be going with some Pearson/Stripling method, maybe until the trade deadline anyway. Not a bad way to go, as long as the depth is taken care of.

But if Bryant is signed, I don’t think he stays at 3B for long either. Corner OF of Springer and Bryant would not be bad at all.
