Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 If it's just a shot to see if he's got anything left, I think it's a great idea. Yeah, it's likely an NRI on a minor league contract.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Yeah, it's likely an NRI on a minor league contract. I think I saw somewhere that it was an NRI on a minor league contract. Obviously shows that we need something in centre field

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) Shouldn't have moved Grichuk. Ah well... Ya I was far from a Grichuk fan but he was easily our best option at CF when Springer is out. That part seems more important than ensuring our 4th OFer is a left handed bat. Only thing I don't understand is that if Tepia is supposed to be a lot faster than Girchuk, how bad are his reads and route running to not be able to play CF? I guess we'll find out soon enough. Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Shouldn't have moved Grichuk. Ah well... Unless it was very 'payroll parameter' driven. The savings may already be earmarked for additions later this season?

Did you read that article with Shapiro? There's really no cash worries for these guys, they made that trade to get Pinto and obviously liked Tapia as a replacement. He'll be backing up for Springer as our CF depth. Not a fan.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Unless it was very 'payroll parameter' driven. The savings may already be earmarked for additions later this season? I don't think they saved any money for this year. The money they are giving to Colorado combined with Tapia's salary I believe nets out to Grichuk's 2022 money, so it's a wash. They do save money in 2023 though if they non tender Tapia. My guess is this deal was done because Charlie benching a vetrin goes against his DNA and they wanted to give Grich a chance to play everyday somewhere, combined with needing a LH bat off the bench to balance out the roster a bit. I'm sure getting (stealing?) a prospect at the same time was the cherry on top.

Indeed, and maybe he can, Colorado has a huge CF as does most of the teams in the West do as well.

Grichuk pretty much got a full seasons worth of at bats last year so I wouldn't consider that an issue. Grichuk would still have been part of our top 9 lineup since we don't have a full time DH.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Does anyone know where that prospect ranks in our system? Probably outside of the top 30, for now. If he's top 30, it'd be JUST BARELY. This is a very young kid with very little professional experience, and he doesn't really have a "good body" for traditional scouts to fap to.

Led the DSL in SB, 2nd in OPS, 1st(by a lot) in BB/K.

I'm not saying I'm not pleased that we picked him up, just that he's not yet going to be a highly rated prospect compared to others in our system. If he plays full season ball in the US this year and does well, he could move pretty dramatically.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) The deal was in no small part to avoid an unhappy Grichuk sitting on the bench Edited March 30, 2022 by Jimcanuck

Pinto has a couple years to gain 10 lbs.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 Sumting Woooooong... Optioned RHPs Hagen Danner and Bowden Francis, LHPs Zach Logue and Anthony Kay, INF Leo Jimenez, 2B Otto Lopez, C Gabriel Moreno and OF Josh Palacios to minor league camp. Reassigned C Chris Bec, RHPs Max Castillo, Adrian Hernandez, Sean Rackoski, Fitz Stadler and Casey Lawrence, 2B Samas Taylor, SSs Estivan Machado, Zac Cook and Orelvis Martinez and CF Chavez Young to minor league camp. Agreed to terms with 3B Matt Chapman, INFs Cavan Biggio, LHPs Ryan Borucki and Tim Mayza, RHPs Trevor Richards, Ross Stripling, Adam Climber and Trent Thornton and C Danny Jensen.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 30, 2022 Posted March 30, 2022 (edited) I wonder why this front office hates Samad Taylor so much. Kid crushed AA pitching last year as a 22-year-old and they left him exposed to the Rule 5 draft before they knew it would get canceled. Then he gets no action in Spring Training while career-bums like Mallex Smith and Nathan Lukes got a ton of playing time. They must really see nothing in him. Shame, because he was super exciting to follow last year. Edit: Scratch that, they did play him. For a single at-bat. In which he hit a home run, lol. His only other career "MLB" at-bat was also in spring training, when he hit a two-run go-ahead single against the Yankees in 2019. Something tells me this kid is going to make the Jays look dumb whenever he inevitably ends up playing for another team. Edited March 30, 2022 by TwistedLogic

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2022 Posted March 31, 2022 I like this. Berrios and Gausman are our long term guys so they get 1-2, Ryu gets 3 which means he won’t face the Yankees and slot Manoah 4th to split up the lefties. Means we’ll have all except Ryu going against the Yankees in NY. Should be a fun series

We've been linked to Tyler Mahle and that still makes some degree of sense. Michael Brantley and Jake Odorizzi could be targets at the deadline (unlikely) or in free agency.

Wouldn't mind Bryan Reynolds. Think he'll cost much less to acquire than Jram and provide good production and is younger/cheaper.
