ESPN is loving it. My gym was playing ESPN on TV this morning, and all I saw was hype for the Red Sox/Yankees series. That was more baseball coverage than they show most of the year. I know the game is on ESPN, so they benefit from the promotion, but I doubt they would have gone this hard with it if it was Toronto/Seattle.

Combine that with Cardinals/Dodgers as the other game, and MLB is probably happy with the matchups, and both should be great games.

It's crazy that the Dodgers would have to face SF in the 1st round of the payoffs (if they beat the Cards)...

Honestly, boo-hoo for the Dodgers.

The Jays won 91 games while playing more games than anyone in MLB against above .500 teams (91 total) in the hardest division in MLB, only finished 4th in the division and don't get to play a single playoff game. They would kill for the chance to play the Cards in a one game show down right now, and then face the Giants if they won that. BTW the Dodgers only played 62 games against above .500 teams.

The Jays also had the 5th best run differential in MLB despite that gauntlet of a schedule.

The Dodgers being a 106 win one and done would spark some interesting new formats for the playoffs. All of which I think I will hate in concept...then love the actual intensity of the all the games. I'm actually a fan of 5 teams with just one bye to the best overall record. Second best div winner plays the 2nd wildcard team, 3rd best div winner plays the first wild card with the best record getting the home games. The winners move on to play a best of 5 in one DS. The losers play each other in a one game wild card to face the number one seed. Means only 1 team is eliminated and makes the number 1 seed a real benefit.

Seeding based on league standings, not divisional. That's the simplest fix. Top 5 records are in. 4 & 5 play 1 game elimination game, then go from there.

You would need balanced schedules though if you really want to make it fair.

I don't want to read any "it was a fun season" ********. This season was agony 2/3 of the time and ended up as perhaps the biggest waste of talent / production in baseball history.

Cy Young winner. MVP candidate. Record setting second baseman. Phenomenal rotation health. Franchise shortstop playing like one. And they end up as "the best 4th place team in baseball history" as their only solace.

Just awful.

Hey Laika, wasn't I saying the same thing in the other thread? Funny.

We all knew it was a terrible trade from the moment it was reported. Hand looked awful this entire season even before he was traded.

Ah but for me saying that, I get attacked by the Terminator, Brownie19 and others.

I never attacked you for not liking the Brad Hand trade.

I called you out for saying Atkins' 2021 performance was a complete failure when the guy added a Cy Young winner, a 45 homer 2B, a couple of 3 WAR SPs, George Springer, an effective lefty bench bat, a RP who put up 1.79 ERA in over 37 innings, and another reliever who put up a 3.30 ERA in over 30 innings.

It's like saying Cindy Crawford is ugly because she has a mole.

Everyone agrees that the 2021 season results sucked

Hello. I am from the future. What if I told you this is as good as it gets?? Don't be sad. There is more to life than baseball. There is television too, though in the future the television writers and actors are on strike so I do not know when the television show will come back.

1. Do you like Seattle? Do you like how they won 90 games with like a bad run differential. Do you like 8-1 leads? OK I am being a bit weirdly cryptic but I don't want to give too much away.

2. Is Vladimir Guerrero Jr your favorite player are you excited to see him keep it up next year now that real Vladdy has arrived? ha ha... I was excited too.

3. It is pretty fun beating the crap out of the Baltimore Orioles isn't it? So when they expand the playoffs the Jays can beat them up lots and lots and when Jays, Sox, Rays, and Yanks win 90 again no one will get left out... OK maybe in 2027 or something the Orioles will be good... right... it won't be until 2027. Takes time to build you know (smirk, chuckle).

4. Do you like that homerun jacket? It is pretty fun isn't it. I bet that will be a traditional that lasts a generation.

5. OK Kirk, Vladdy and Manoah are kind of big, big men. Will that catch up to them? What if all three combined for 1 WAR when they are old? That won't happen until like 2035 though so no need to worry and they will have a drug for fatness then (ironically they get a drug for fatness in like 14 months from now... but also... naaaah I won't tell you).

The future is bright, don't be sad, the Jays will win lots of playoff games in the future so much to look forward to.

What's funny about Brad Hand is that he's basically been pretty good both before and after his tenure with us. He just sucked ass for the 8 innings we had him lol.

Even Alex Anthoupodopolous (tied with Mike Elias as the greatest GMs in baseball history since the legendary Branch Rickey) traded for him this very season.

Idk man he always seems to f***ing blow in big moments, like in the playoffs last year for the Phillies. And I remember him blowing some big games for other teams In previous years.

1. Mike Elias

(tie 2) Anthopoulos, Branch Rickey

Anthopoulos is like, OK. Trade for Brand Hand, I'm Anthopoulos I can talk anybody into being good with my jabber... I can talk any 22 year old legend into signing a 10 year 80 million dollar contract... Hey Hand... your good. Hey Jose Bautista I know the old GM Richy Riccardi or someone traded for you, but your my guy now. Your good. Hey Matt Olson, you know 30 homerun guy, did you ever think to try for 60 like 'the judge'. I'm AA I got the gift of jabber. I learned it from the beast. Hey little 22 year old with 7 WAR, did you know how much 7 WAR a year is worth? I bet it's millions so I'll give you millions, like 8 millions a year.

Wait what. Mike Elias traded for some Japanese guy who kept getting sent to the Japanese minor leagues every year (it's true look it up) and has an 8.00 ERA and walks 10 per 9, and hits guys with 105 and will kill someone probably.. you go Mike Elias, you are on another level, even I couldn't jabber that guy into being good.

I don't keep track of his individual performances, just looking at the overall picture.

He was elite until 2020 and has since settled in to be a decent middle reliever. Except for the 8 innings we had him.

And Silvio is foaming at the mouth about Atkins trading for Hand back in 2021. Well his hero Alex Anthopolopomusaraus just had a very very quiet trade deadline and among his big acquisitions he traded for BRAD HAND this very year.

If the Braves don't win the World Series I expect him to move AA down to 3rd behind Branch Dickey and Mike Elias in his all-time GM rankings.

Laika was saying Atkins went all-in at the trade deadline when I criticized that Atkins could have done more to add to the pen in-season and I responded saying well if he went all in, it was a disappointing result. Again, like I said before maybe shouldn't have used the word "failed" but alright.

I never criticized Atkins about his offseason acquisitions. I actually praised them FFS. I said it was a shame that he never complimented them more in-season or at the deadline especially considering how great that 2021 team was.

Yes I was. You said the same thing, but two years later you bash me for saying the same damn thing you did. Smart ass!
