Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Counting how many times dolis ruined the season for us I remember he blew 3 straight games against the Redsox within the span of like 10 days. Charlie is a GENIEUS

I used to have emotions regarding outcomes of games until I became a young adult and eventually I realized it’s not very organic, like a lot of other high dollar industries in life. Also, whatever the outcome is that happens, has zero to do with what I’m accomplishing or failing at in life. It’s not a coincidence that New York and Boston are in the Wild Card while not really being anywhere close to the talent level of Toronto. Plus, nobody in the real world keeps their job making daily mistakes the way the wonderful McDonald’s, I mean American League MOY does. You just can’t take most of this stuff at face value. Everything is about appearances and not much else anymore in the West. Especially if you work for a super puss org like Rogers. Work, invest wisely, get a good partner if you’re lucky and die. There you go. Good luck all. Must have used alot of tinfoil for this post
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Brad Hand and Dolis come to mind. Those f***ing f***ers. Atkins definitely deserves some blame. As much as I hate Montoyo, the bullpen was putrid and lost a ton of winnable games.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Because of injuries and the 60 game COVID season with no minor league's the Blue Jays have a huge collection of players for which we don't have a lot of data on (or as much as we would in normal times), who did not contribute in 2021 but could big-time in 2022. Pearson, Biggio, Espinal, Otto Lopez, Groshans, Moreno, Hatch, Kevin Smith, Merryweather, Kay, Kirk, Jansen and others. I include Biggio and Jansen because they only had a 60 game season in 2020, then injured in 2021. I think that's an interesting pool of talent, they won't all be contributors but some of them will. I think they are all potentially under-rated because of lack of full seasons to evaluate them and out of that pool alone 1/2 of Semien/Ray (if they do leave) replacement is there.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Thread is a little too negative What is 2022 win projection right now with talent signed? How hard is it to build back to 90+ from there? Need to keep pace with the rest of the East. I don't think TBR will be a 100 win projected team next year. Yankees and Red Sox may make improvements and mega-signings. Need to create a 'projected' team that is within a win or 2 of the other 3 and then hope win/loss luck is at least neutral... who knows it could be positive someday. Aren't losing too many projected wins next year, because the projected wins from the all star seasons didn't actually happen.

This was a team which over-performed from a pre-season expectation point of view but underperformed to their true talent. It sucks when 4 of the best 5 teams in League are in one division ... it sucks a lot more when your season didn't end on the field. So much could have been done to make Sunday not matter but in the end it did and just minutes from the regular seasons end it looked like there would be one more game. Let people have their moment where this just sucks!
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Let people have their moment where this just sucks! A lot of people already had that moment after the second loss to Minnesota 10 days ago. At that point the playoff odds dropped from 70 to 20 in about 4 days... It was almost a miracle they kept it alive to the last day.

At that point the playoff odds dropped from 70 to 20 in about 4 days... It was almost a miracle they kept it alive to the last day. Without looking it up (and I'm not sure how to look it up) I'd say biggest drop in playoff odds were 1. 1-4 stretch against TBR and Minn while Yankees went 4-0 2. 2-6 stretch against Seattle, Washington and Detroit 3. 0-6 stretch in late May against Boston and TBR On the last day it was final, and playoff odds went from 15 to 0 or something, but those other stretches were more like going from 60 to 20 or something. So guys like JuniorFelix (the one with numbers, not the other one) are trollish, but their posts do correspond to the big drops in playoff odds.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 We got f***ing snubbed, you play this season over again and there's no way the Jays aren't at minimum in the first wild card spot, probably competing for the division. There are so many games you can look at now that were easily winnable for the Jays but for whatever reason they just couldn't get it done. The bunting with s*** players to try and get them over to third in extras really sticks out to me.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Maybe the worst part is every team in the AL playoffs is very, very, unlikeable. Tampa/NY/Boston are obviously our rivals and my hatred for each of them only continues to grow and I could never ever cheer for any of them. The Astros have their cheating scandal and the White Sox have La Russa. I mean I GUESS it would be Chicago but only because they're the least hateable of a group of extremely hateable teams.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Maybe its just me, but the Yankees have been so inept (relatively anyway) that I dont't have much hate for them right now. I have a lot of respect for what the Rays do. Houston is loathsome, as is Boston and their ******** pitching staff. Will be rooting for the Rays or White Sox to get out of the AL.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 You get me. You’re only torn when it’s Rays vs Friedman. Coin flip there I assume depending on the year
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I'm obviously cheering for the Rays...but the only other acceptable team getting out of the AL for me is the Astros. The White Sox wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs if they played in any other division. In the NL I'm good with Dodgers, Brewers or Cardinals, and won't be throwing things no matter who gets in.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 For such a s*** card the Jays got dealt from the beginning of the season (2 "home" fields) moving around basically playing away.. It's hard not to get mad about what happened. I'm glad they played meaningful baseball down to the wire, but letting another team hold your fate (Rays/Nationals) is not an ideal situation. I think this could be the beginning of a nice run the Jays will have over the next few years! Now I gotta root for the f***ing Red Sox because that's the team my dad roots for and I feel bad if I don't support them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who resents the White Sox over winning their vacation of a division. I'm fine if any of the 100-game winners take it all but also would enjoy the Brewers going all the way too. Everyone else can f*** straight off.

Seriously though Meanwhile Jays win 91 games and finish 4th Jays would have won 95-100 games in the Central

Actually better than if the Red Sox offense (829 runs scored vs 771) had the Yankees pitching/defense (669 runs allowed vs 749). 20 runs better on differential than this fictional team!

glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I'd root for anybody over the Rays, so as long as it's the Yanks/Red Sox, Astros, or White Sox in the World Series on the AL side, I don't care who wins.

Sunday past really sucked donkey balls, the sting has passed, the depression, not so much. We really should be in this dance, f***.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 The AL wildcard game is gonna be crazy Ya, I just couldn't choke down watching the highlights of the Yanks or BoSox games on Sunday. Flipped channel any time they came on. Can't listen to pods etc. My bitterness over not making the post season (still feels surreal to me) is only surpassed by my anticipation for tonight's game. Must watch TV. Makes you realize again how special that was in 2016 when Edwin mashed that ball out of Rogers Centre vs the O's.(Thanks Buck)
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 The AL wildcard game is gonna be crazy ESPN is loving it. My gym was playing ESPN on TV this morning, and all I saw was hype for the Red Sox/Yankees series. That was more baseball coverage than they show most of the year. I know the game is on ESPN, so they benefit from the promotion, but I doubt they would have gone this hard with it if it was Toronto/Seattle. Combine that with Cardinals/Dodgers as the other game, and MLB is probably happy with the matchups, and both should be great games.
