EastCoaster Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Ryan Borucki will likely get a suspension for yesterday plunking of Kevin Kiermaier as he was made to leave the game immediately after the incident meaning that the umpires ruled it intentional. Do you think that was the smart thing to do or do you figure it was stupid and childish in such an important game. I believe that Borucki will likely get 5 games for his action on Kiermaier. Do you guys feel he might get more or less games.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 I had no problem with Borucki doing that in this situation. The game was already out of reach. KK is a douchebag, glad he got plunked. Borucki did it the right way, didn't throw at his head but definitely got the message across. He gets maybe 2 games max, if he even gets suspended at all.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 He probably gets two or three games. I think it was absolutely the correct thing to do. While Kiermaier may not have done anything "wrong", it was definitely a situation where a message needed to be sent. That's the way baseball has been for the last hundred years. It's too bad one of the visuals from all of this was Charlie basically standing up for Kiermaier and the Rays instead of his own team.

I bet if the situation was reversed and one of our players got plunked Charlie would just sit there in the dugout with that stupid grin on his face, and the Rays' pitcher would have continued pitching. Borucki probably would have stayed in the game if Cash didn't come out and make a scene.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Personally I can't stand pitchers throwing at batters. Such a pussy move. If you believe violence is required to get your point across, then walk up to him and punch him in the face.

Pitchers all think they're bad asses because they can hit batters while batters cant do anything back. Although this is how baseball has worked so I am fine with KK getting hit in the back until an alternative to this is accepted I just hate Montoyo saying it's all water under the bridge and then we did that. Clearly there's a discrepancy between how our players felt and how our manager felt.

If players knew they wouldn't be stopped before they did that, you'd probably see it happen more often.

If you think you need to send a message to KK, start McGuire and when KK walks up to the plate, stand up and drive him in the face. Message sent. Most act tough and will look like they want to fight while being held back by players/coaches - but the reality is most are pussies and don't actually want to send a message in a fair and equal manner. They'd much prefer to just throw a baseball at someone and then hide behind their teammates. It's pretty sad that's been the acceptable practice for more than 100 years. It will probably take a major injury or death to change it unfortunately. Could you imagine a hockey player just riffling a puck onto the opponents bench to 'send a message'? The reality is violence is almost never needed. What do they do in football to 'send a message'? jack s***. That s*** isn't needed in sports.

The Jays were down, that f***er was laughing at us, I am glad he was pegged. It was a clean hit, if there is such a thing. Kudos to Ryan for knowing exactly where to throw.
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Call me old school but I'm good with it. At least he didn't miss over his head, he hit his target first pitch. Great control, good command, good outing.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 At this point everyone has done everything almost correctly. KK is supposed to sneak that card and give it to his coaches, The Jays are supposed to express disappointment, Cash is supposed to apologize, The Jays are supposed to hit him in the back, Umpire crew is supposed to kick out Borucki (although it should be the home plate umpire not West and in the official record it is the HP ump listed). The league is supposed to give Borucki a couple days. Everything else is for the fans, media and gamesmanship. And KK is not a guy that anyone on the Jays wants to f*** with. Don't let the dreamy eyes fool you he is a martial arts killer.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 It was a well deserved HBP and Borucki should be applauded for doing so no matter how many games he gets. Unsportsmanlike conduct is just one of those things that has to be policed on the field. MLB can't punish Kiermaier for being a coward and a liar.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Team Borucki! Glad it was him that did it and not Romano or one of our core BP arms.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Divine intervention This argument doesn’t hold water when it’s very clear that Jansen set up on the far outside of the plate- very far from his arm side. Of course I can’t blame Borucki for saying that since he can’t go out and admit throwing at him, but still, make it sound better.

Imagine how you look to your own dugout if you surrender all that intel like a boyscout when there is no rule forcing you to. This is basically all hurt-feelings theatre. Don't drop your f***ing cheat sheets (not that the Rays aren't already aware of the pro strats being used against them).
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Author Posted September 23, 2021 Give the fact that Borucki was ejected from the game and both benches cleared pretty much sum up the feeling from both team. I do think it was intentional given the situation on what had happened in the previous game. The game was out of hand anyways whether Borucki did it on his own is yet to be known but I wouldn't be surprise on a 3 to 5 game suspension the fact that the incident involving Kiermaier was pretty well broadcast through the sporting world and possible payback was to expected does force the MLB to address the situation.

What I like about it from the Jays side is how much emotion the Jays (and kind of the Rays) show playing each other. Let the fans foster the Sox/Yanks spending advantages resentment, the Rays are your real long term rivals in this division. Build the rivalry, and foster some fans hatred. It's good for AL East baseball.

I hate the unwritten rules when it is stupid stuff like swinging 3-0 with a 6 run lead, or other nonsense like that. This was a completely different story. Well deserved beaning, and Borucki threw it in the right spot where it wouldn't cause damage. A suspension for Charlie would just be icing on the cake.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 I think Montoyo should get suspened the remainder of the season and playoffs for organizing the planned assault. Better have him sit out all of 2022 as well just to be safe.
BlueJays Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Why Montoyo only got 1 game? Should be the rest of 2021 season.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 you've obviously never played football. Actually I did. Remind me again what the Patriots did when Bernard Pollard took Brady out in Week 1? There is unsportsmanlike s*** in football all the time and there's very little, if any 'on field policing' of it. What on field policing do you see in basketball? There's very little if any retribution for a hard foul or an unsportsmanlike play. You don't see players throwing the basketball at peoples face. There are some situations where something happens (usually a big old pushing and yelling match - which solves nothing), but you don't see anywhere near the retaliation or on field policing in basketball or football that you see in hockey and baseball.
