Not unless we're getting back legitimate core pieces that will be here a little while.

I would reluctantly move Groshans for Ohtani.

Are the Rockies going to do nothing?

That would be an egregious mistake

I’m not particularly interested in trading any of our legitimate prospects.

Me neither really

But also if we keep them all then I want contract extensions for Bo and Vlad so they're around past thir ARB years

Not moving Bard or Gray. Classic Rockies. Don't expect anything different.

They have done the worst possible think at most crucial points in time for years now. How to sewer your franchise 101.

Next year's trade deadline is going to be super fun if the Angels are out of it yet again and they have a year and 2 months of control of Ohtani and he's declined to sign a long term extension. The bidding war for Ohtani would be epic.

Mayhaps a Kirk trade incoming for someone like Berrios?

With them losing out of Scherzer, confident that San Diego will get Berrios

Yes because they have a great GM. He sees what his team needs and goes to get it. He maximizes all avenues of aquiring talent, through free agency, trades, waiver wire, amateur scouting and iternational scouting, The Padres seem to come out on top with most transactions and if they dont then at least its not or trying. I commend him. I am still happy with our FO but The Padres have a good one as well.

How does a team with a playoff probability of approximately 0 not just take what they can get for their mediocre 36-year old closer?

Well @jaysonst just reported on @MLBNetwork that the Jays are willing to discuss Nate Pearson in a potential Jose Berrios deal

They do. And they built up their talent capital to get to the point where they are now, and to be able to do the things they currently are doing. Prior to 2020, they had a near decade long losing record of being under .500. I think our FO is following similar model, and in a year or two, I see us in same position (hopefully), as the Padres.

That's my guess as well. The Padres not only want to contend with the Dodgers, but Preller is far more likely to trade prospects than Atkins is.

Now, if Pearson is up for trade, then maybe that gives the Jays a chance, but I can't imagine Pearson's value is anywhere near where it was 1-2 years ago given his injuries.

Are the Twins also shopping Kenta Maeda? Two more years of really cheap control after this season. He'd be a solid target.

Mark Feinsand

@Feinsand

The Mets, Blue Jays and Giants are among the teams with continued interest in Trevor Story, per sources. The Rockies must decide whether the offers coming in are better than the compensatory draft picks they would receive if he leaves as a free agent.

If Trevor Story moves — and it is an “if" with 4 hours until deadline — rivals think the #Bluejays and #Rays are the main contenders. #Mets have been tied to Story, but haven’t sensed that it is priority. @Feinsand mentioned the #SFGiants too.

I don't think the team should be moving assets for Story unless he comes very cheap. Berrios makes a lot more sense.

If we trade for Story, they better find a way to lock him up long term or this management team is looking foolish. We already got Semien to worry about unless we want to move Biggio back to 2B, Story 3B and take back a compensation pick for Semien.

f*** the rays, get trevor story

He's been pretty garbage this year, so I hope we don't give up much for a rental... Since our farm is better than the BoSox, I'd be willing to part with Trent Palmer, our 22nd best prospect according to MLB.com.

Berríos trade likely, sources tell @TheAthletic. Blue Jays appear leading option.

Getting Berrios would be huge!

Maybe the FO is thinking we give Story the QO and he accepts it? 1 year deal to bet on himself and erase the possibility of having a QO/draft pick tied to him in the future.... otherwise yeah seems like a weird fit. Maybe they have a trade for Lourdes/Teo in the works and plan to use Biggio in the OF?

EDIT: Also if Story accepted a 1 year deal for 2022 then he wouldn't have to compete in free agency with Correa and Semien who are both way better

I don't know who we'll end up with, if any. Or if the cost will be palatable, but today is exciting nonetheless.

Team back in TO, and a crazy trade deadline. I'm barely getting any work done. :-)

If the Jays are offering something better than SD and Tampa, then it's probably significant. Pearson is likely gone if that deal happens.

You guys think Berrios could be had without losing one of Martin, Moreno, Martinez?

Yes. There's still Kirk, Pearson, Gurriel, Biggio, Groshans, etc.

Trading 1 of those could have got us Turner...it better not cost any of them
