I was looking around at likely non playoff rosters for realistic 3B trade targets and holy s*** what is up with Anthony Rendon this year? 82 wRC+?

For 35M a year

Scherzer says he won't waive NTC without an extension.

Isn’t that what teams would want to hear? As long as it’s not some outrageous length.

So it could be like with Dickey where the Mets gave GM_AA a window to negotiate a contract extension after the trade details were ironed out. Interesting.

Yeah, exactly like that.

I'm a one percenter. Spanky seems like a good dude.

I definitely used to get annoyed. Not sure what happened in the years I wasn't active on here but ever since I came back earlier this season, Spanky's been awesome. Feel like he's really mellowed out and improved as a poster over time.

Feel like this whole forum has improved as a whole in general. Used to see every new poster get attacked and accused of being someone else before they even had a chance to integrate into the community (and to be fair, in many of those cases, they were dupes). Used to see a lot of dogpiling and bullying take place as well. Haven't seen all that happen nearly as much since returning.

It's been so many years since we left the mlb board. The trolls here weren't even that bad...But it was an obsession of so many for so long. That ending slowly helped this board a lot.

But lets be clear here...when I say being an ass to Spanky it doesn't mean disliking him. Quite the opposite in most cases.

Trey Mancini would be an interesting pickup. He's a FA in 2023, so he'd come with a bit of control. He is such an amazing story, and he can play OF, 1B and (I think) 3B in a pinch. That would spell the absolute end of Rowdy. Hey, trade Rowdy+ for Mancini. Well, maybe Rowdy would be the plus.

Stop flirting Hurl, lol. I just stopped a war with trolls sorta, lol. Moderation has made a big difference, don't leave yourself short.

Same here. Spanks seems to Thanks 95% of peoples posts, I can't see a board where he thinks everyone is an *******.

You're right, it's about 5% that piss me off, lol.

I really like the coherent version of Spanky, he adds an interesting flare to the board.

The incoherent is usually deleted by myself... weed and beer is a beautiful thing. Lots of that holds water, too, lol

Just to be clear I'm thanking this post as a kind of thank you for deleting the incoherent crazy guy posts. Trying to decipher some of those feels like trying to crack an ancient code.

Yes. Plus, I speak Spanky, no one gets it.

I see this as plus not a minus. We have money to spend next year. Going into next year with Max and Ryu wouldn't be awful.

Van Eyk has been pretty good this year. His numbers have been inflated by a couple of really horrendous outings where he only went 0.2 innings. His last outing he gave up 7er in 0.2 innings. I like what he's shown this year in his first pro ball.

Kloffenstein has just flat out sucked this year.

Blue Jays Interested In Richard Rodriguez

By Mark Polishuk | June 30, 2021 at 11:12pm CDT

The Blue Jays are one of the teams showing trade interest in Pirates right-hander Richard Rodriguez, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (Twitter link). Toronto has already made one early move to upgrade its struggling bullpen, as righty Adam Cimber was acquired yesterday part of a four-player deal with the Marlins.

As MLBTR’s Steve Adams recently illustrated, Rodriguez figures to be one of the most sought-after players of this deadline season. The 31-year-old closer is not only inexpensive ($1.7MM salary for 2021) and controllable (through the 2023 season), but he also posted some of the best numbers of any reliever in baseball. Rodriguez has a 1.78 ERA/3.55 SIERA through 30 1/3 innings, with that higher SIERA reflective of such factors as a .215 BABIP and a 24.5% strikeout rate that is barely above average.

However, Rodriguez also has some elite control — he has issued only three walks, the fewest of any pitcher in the league with at least 30 innings pitched. The lack of strikeouts, as Steve notes, is more due to a change in pitch selection rather than any sudden inability to miss bats, as Rodriguez has increased focus on generating weak contact in the form of infield pop-ups. Rodriguez’s success in 2021 also isn’t coming out of nowhere, as he is now in his fourth season of delivering quality results out of the Pittsburgh bullpen.

The right-hander would solidify any relief corps, but he would be an especially major upgrade to a Toronto bullpen that has struggled badly in recent weeks. A rather stunning number of reliever injuries has thinned the Jays’ depth, and while a few of those arms will return, there isn’t much time to spare considering how many blown leads have already cost the Blue Jays several crucial victories in a very competitive AL East.

The acquisition of Cimber over a month before the trade deadline indicates that the Toronto front office is already being aggressive in exploring options, even if league-wide trade activity isn’t expected to really kick into gear until after the July 11-13 amateur draft is completed. The Pirates could be a particular team to monitor in this regard, considering the Bucs face the especially big decision of who to select with the first overall pick.

The Blue Jays have enough minor league depth to get the Pirates’ attention in what should be a very competitive market for Rodriguez, and Pittsburgh is certainly justified in demanding a big return. Pirates GM Ben Cherington worked in the Jays front office before being hired in his current role in November 2019, though while this connection has often linked the Jays and Pirates together as natural trade partners, the two clubs have yet to actually swing a deal during Cherington’s tenure.

Maybe the Jays should just go get Kimbrel. I mean, it's not my money so what the hell.

It's not... But as a general rule, they only have so much to spend. They're not one of the organization's that will exceed their budget and bury their mistakes. Money will always be a factor.

Perhaps what the FO is thinking what Kimbrel is making they could get 2 other reliable relievers?

One of Shaprios issues with Alex A was giving up highly ranked assets/prospects for short term players, he may consider trading lesser prospects for lesser of a big bang reliever?
