They just shipped out Tellez to open up a spot for Cruz. Brilliant move.

Rotating the DH spot to rest guys is overrated.

Give me the cleanup guy that bats .304/.377/.562, 151 wRC+ and on pace for 36 Hr and 100 RBIs.

Guys can rest when we’re up 10-1.

True, hope they throw in berrios.

If Atkins can pull off Berrios and Cruz, replace the Ted Rogers statue.

We have plenty of asset capital to get Cruz, Berrios and Rogers if we want. It's all about getting good trade value.

Cruz, obviously depending on cost, is a stunning move. A 150 wRC+ DH? Sign me up!

Yes, we need more pitching and they are hunting hard for that. Cruz is just a beast and extremely consistent.

We don't need pitching, we need to create positive run differential. Pitching is just the most obvious place where this can be upgraded, not necessarily the most cost-effective.

ok ok...we want more pitching and or more f***ing runs.

The worry would be guys like Vlad, Bo, Springer, Teo would get days off instead of just DHing. Each bit of that blunts Cruz’s impact obv

Jose Ramirez

f*** yes please.

He's a free agent this off season? I didn't even think of him with Bryant and all the big name SS going free agent thisboff season.

He’s not

José Ramírez has options for '22 and '23 that will certainly be picked up.

Cruz is also 40 years old, he can get more rest days if you want and then you have a monster bat on the bench if necessary while one of the other players get a rest day from the field.

Yeah definitely not lobbying against it. Just hoping for some pitching over it

Jose Ramirez would be a perfect fit but he would probably cost Moreno or Kirk to start since he has two team friendly options. I like that idea more than Cruz, the fear of Vlad getting injured cause the left side of the infield can't throw grows every day.

Julian Merryweather for Jose Ramirez!

Cubs' Hoyer ready to sell after losing streak: 'Life comes at you fast'

https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2186574

Let's go get Byrant/Hendricks/Kimbrel in a Marlins type Blockbuster. Bryant and Kimbrel shouldn't cost too much given their contractual status but Hendricks would be the one that would cost a lot. Groshans, Jansen and one of Gurriel/Biggio should be enough for a basis of the deal.

While those are all targets I'd like, I don't really feel like moving Groshans, Gurrriel, or Biggio for rentals/a pitcher that might be our 5th starter.

Biggio alone is worth more than than entire package. Not kidding

I thought Hendricks was a bit younger but he's still under contract for 2 more years at 14M per. He'd become our 3rd best starter assuming Manoah and Stripling fall back a bit. Kimbrel is under contract for another year at 16M while Bryant is a free agent. We would get a compensatory pick if Bryant leaves us at years end, which adds value to his status.

We can keep Gurriel/Biggio and include a lesser prospect if that makes more sense. We could solve all our remaining needs with 1 trade but it would suck having Semien and Bryant on the team who might both leave after the season. That's the part I could understand us not being fans of.

I think projections are weighting his past performance a bit favourably rn, there's a strong chance he's a below average hitter and fielder with no position and a fatal flaw in his swing that wasn't really exploited until late last season.

I have to say I would gladly part with Biggio as the primary piece in a deal for Bryant + Hendricks + Kimbrel, rentals be damned. I do not think Biggio is ever going to be the 3+ WAR player we thought he could be.

Biggio has like an .860 OPS and 130 wRC+ since coming back from injury.

I want to see Kimbrel for sure, not sure I want to give up too much for Bryant. No control.

I like the idea of getting Jose Ramirez in a trade, with the Imdians spiraling. His team options look too team friendly. Can't see the tribe moving him.

Ya, I'm in the same boat where I love Biggio as the 9th/10th man in the lineup but I would easily package him to upgrade major areas of need like Closer/3B/top end starter. Now only problem is whether you love Kimbrel/Bryant/Hendricks enough given their contractual statuses.

Biggio/Jansen and a lesser prospect seems like a no brainer considering we'd get a compensation pick if Bryant leaves us. It was only because of that pick that I had us giving up a top prospect as well.

He's been well above average when not injured this season (.280/.371/.493) and average overall. He's also already had 2 seasons well in excess of a 3 WAR pace. Closer to 4 in both, actually.

The position change and injuries have led to a rough start this season, but he's still the same player we saw in 2019 and 2020. A bad April hasn't changed his entire career outlook. That take is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Traded players are not eligible for qualifying offers.

This I did not know... That changes my perception quite a bit.

Then it doesn't make sense for the Cubs to trade Bryant for anything less than the value of a compensatory pick. That would only happen for teams likely to re-sign Bryant. With Semien already on board, I don't see it happening.
