Bichette is great, and it would hurt to lose him.. But his bat and "image" are what some teams would kill to acquire.

Defensively? That's not what he's expected to bring, and we'd be fine losing him on that end, especially if it meant getting a pair of middle relievers and a journeyman in the vein of MacDonald

Who cares about Cruz' defense? He is one of the best hitters in the game and a clear DH. There is room for him on every AL team save Houston and New York.

Not the perfect fit since a DH-only is a bit restrictive, but for a DH-only who can put up a 140-150 wRC+, I think you can find a way to make it work.

Because the Twins will be sellers, he’s one of the 15 best hitters in the league and there won’t be a lot of teams in on him. Love the idea of lengthening the offence even if it creates a bit of a jam.

Well its not clear that they are actually pursuing Cruz, but if they were the rationale would be that a run scored equals a run saved.

I am all for a move that would make the lineup so deep that Teoscar would become the 6-hitter. Two (hopefully three) months of DH logjam is a very small price to pay for a mutant like Cruz.

Cost might be low. I don't even know if TB/OAK could take the rest of his salary this year.

What's likely happening here though:

 

1. We're not just targeting Cruz. Jose Berrios and/or Taylor Rogers would probably be coming back too.

I don't think the Twins are major sellers. I think they'll only sell the expirings.

 

Both of them are free agents are the end of next season. If Twins want to maximize their return, now makes the most sense to sell them both if they don't re-sign. Especially because both are having one of their better seasons. You don't want to risk either underperforming and/or getting injured (like pitchers tend to do) and getting less in return. We've seen smaller-market teams like the Indians do this with Trevor Bauer and Mike Clevinger recently too (both were traded with 1.5 years of control).

 

We'll see what happens, but I think both get moved by the Twins this deadline. If not Rogers, than definitely Berrios. There were rumors swirling in Spring Training that they were getting nowhere in extension talks.

I'm not sure. They will be eyeing competition in 2022 and thinking that 2021 was a lot of bad luck. I'm sure they would trade Rogers and Berrios but I bet they would only do it for specific kinds of deals with MLB talent coming their way and those deals might not be out there.
