Should the Blue Lays sign Albert Pujols once he get his outright release from the Angels read an article that the Blue jays are a favored landing spot for Pujols along White Sox, Athletics, and Indians. What better leadership could Jays bring into a clubhouse lacking a true leader than Pujols. What better mentor for Vladdy than the 10 times first base all-star. Plus bring in a truely legimate powerbat from the modern day baseball into the DH spot. This would certainly interesting for the fans watching a future HOFer chasing after his 700 HR. This could be a win win situation for the Blue Jays. Edited by Laika

If he’s fine with being a bench bat. Maybe a change of scenery and this DFA will give him just enough of a spark to make a dead cat bounce back and hit for one final season

He's been very bad for the past 5 seasons and he is 103 years old. That cat is buried and can no longer bounce.

Should they?

Absolutely not.

Do I kinda want them to?

Yes. Yes, I do.

Yeah, there's a non-zero chance I'd buy a Jays Pujols jersey, honestly... But they really should not sign him.

They really shouldn't. It's one of the worst moves they could make and I refuse to believe the front office is dumb enough to do it.

But then again... they do have Panik on the roster. If they have to have a worthless veteran creating a black hole in the lineup, I'd trade Panik for Pujols in a heartbeat.

Not only does Pujols still project to be as good or better with the bat than Panik, he would bring a big red Santa bag full of vetrin presents.

At the same time, finally Old Yeller'ing Panik would remove his disgusting presence out of the way of Espinal on defense, which could only be a plus.

Is there any actual PROOF that Albert Pujols is ANY of these things? "Great clubhouse guy" - seems to me that he's a guy who knows he's actually ~45 years old, has been a complete detriment on the field for 5 years now, and yet he's complaining about whether or not he gets to play? That seems to paint him as a guy who can't even accept reality and is likely strong-arming the team into losing games by feeding him at-bats instead of accepting his "new role" on the team as he should have done.

I loathe this auto-assumption that every old has-been is a "great mentor" or "leader".

Montoyo would play him everyday and bat him cleanup.

Yeah, so even a "trade Panik for Pujols" scenario is probably a downgrade for this reason alone. At least Panik (usually) bats down in the order.

The team should not sign Pujols. No team should sign Pujols. Pujols has absolutely nothing to offer a MLB team.

At a glance I say Albert Pujols is absolutely finished. But after digging into his batted ball metrics and expected statistics he's actually producing his best quality of contact in the last 5 or 6 years. It appears as though he has been comically unlucky, his BABIP is .176 despite producing 69th percentile average exit velocity and 66th percentile xWOBA. I initially thought that a lot of this could be due to a combination of shifting and the severe lack of foot speed as he is the slowest runner in the history of Statcast, but his numbers in 2021 are actually worse when he's not being shifted vs when the shift is on against him.

I would want absolutely nothing to do with Pujols on the Jays as they are better served to rotate hitters through the DH spot, especially once Springer and Kirk return. But Pujols may be able to offer some value with the bat to a s***** team with a weak offense such as the Orioles for instance.

Just seeing his on-field interactions with Espinal and Travis shows what kind of guy he is

I saw this as it happened, and its even more sad now knowing that he was released a couple days later (I'm not sure he played again after this play). I really wish he had retired 5 years ago.

Wow he legitimately can't even more anymore.

Poo holes wanted to play everyday still, so I don't think he would want to come here and be a bench guy

He's "running" like he just had an insane leg day the day before.

Of course EastCoaster would create this thread. He may actually deserve some props for his troll game. I thought he was just dumn, but this confirms he's a troll.

Remember when we thought Russell Martin was a great mentor? Only to hear Danny Jansen talk about how Luke Maile worked with him and helped him way more than Martin ever did.

Assuming great players are good role models, teachers and mentors is a fallacy.

They only team that should sign him is a young American league team that has no shot at playoffs and could use his mentorship to help grow their players.... Baltimore
