Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Gregory Balloch @GregBalloch James Paxton on @Sportsnet650 on whether the #BlueJays considered signing him: “They showed a lot of interest, and I had interest too, but they never came forward with an offer.” And an offer is objectively the most important step to signing a player.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) And an offer is objectively the most important step to signing a player. I don't understand the "showed a lot of interested" but never made an offer thing. Guy signed for a 1/8.5 deal so if there was genuine interest, an offer would have been made. Were they expecting a minor league deal here? Sounds like the Jays like to lead some players on lol. Edited February 17, 2021 by Jays24

'If we wait long enough and no one else offers him anything meaty, we can swoop in and get him on the cheap.'

There was probably lots of verbal discuss on term, length, options, etc. but we probably never got close enough to formalize an offer. This s*** happens all the time man.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Guys, Paxton’s contract has incentives for 10 games pitched and 20 games pitched. I think there’s some serious injury concerns

I think there’s some serious injury concerns I knew there had to be a reason a guy with a 3.31 career FIP only received a one year 8.5 mil offer. Thanks for explaining that.

jerb Verified Member Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi #BlueJays confirm that they will host first two homestands of 2021 at TD Ballpark in Dunedin. They will have fans at a 15% capacity for those games.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 Scott Mitchell @ScottyMitchTSN Here’s #BlueJays location plan: -They did not ask federal government to play in Toronto. They realize the landscape. -Team will play in Dunedin through May if no border changes. -From there, they go to Buffalo (or Toronto) when FLA heat becomes too much. -FLA/BUF/TOR the options.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 18, 2021 Posted February 18, 2021 Mike Harrington @ByMHarrington On video call that just wrapped up, #Bluejays prez/CEO Mark Shapiro says: "The alternatives for our season lie in some combination of Dunedin, Buffalo & Toronto." Says a move to Sahlen Field would require "a more lasting and permanent solution" here than what was used last year. Mike Harrington @ByMHarrington #Bluejays Mark Shapiro said team **would** be interested in selling tickets for games in Buffalo this year if they come but would work with city, county and state on that process.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Always found the topic of the Dunedin facility to be irrelevant but it seems to get discussed in the mainstream media more than normal What the f*** do I care that they're staying in luxury if we're never going to see it. Good for them lol.

I'm a loner and a sociopath so this has no relevance to me. How dare they report on something that might be of interest to other people.

A state of the art facility is going to help land top or preferred talent in free agency, so you should care a bit.

The past years, almost everyone has complained about how archaic the facilities were. Some of the field was also very dangerous as Michael Saunders will testify to!

jerb Verified Member Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/sportsnet-announces-blue-jays-2021-spring-training-broadcast-schedule/ Sportsnet will be streamlining production for the 2021 season by simulcasting TV broadcasts on Sportsnet 590 The FAN and across the Sportsnet Radio Network. That means fans will be able to listen to Buck Martinez, Dan Shulman, and Pat Tabler on both TV and radio. Ben Wagner remains part of the Blue Jays on Sportsnet broadcast team, joining Jamie Campbell, Joe Siddall, Hazel Mae, and Arash Madani in covering all the bases throughout the season.

Who the f*** wants to listen to audio from a TV broadcast on the radio? It's not the same thing. I feel sorry for Ben Wagner.

I feel sorry for Ben Wagner. If they were to broadcast it for radio and then just have the cameras rolling, that'd be fine... But That's 100% not what they're going to do.

Does anyone know if other teams do this? So much for muting the TV and listening to the radio to by-pass Buck Martinez.
