Gonna make the early call and say he's gonna end up being Sanchez 2.0

He'll have 1 or 2 good seasons but ultimately never put anything together due to constant injuries.

I hope i'm wrong but this guy just feels like a glass cannon... and if he's already having nagging injuries this early in his career it's just gonna get worse

Yeah... Hope you are wrong too.. but I always like to see guys with pristine injury history, or if they get an injury to come back exactly on time with no setbacks.

The 'setback' guys always seem to have constant injuries.

Good guys - Slight groin pull, out 10 days, day 8 ahead of schedule starts throwing, day 12 back to full workouts, day 15 back

Bad guys - Slight groin pull, out 10 days, day 8 ahead of schedule, no not quite ready, day 12 still a few days away, day 15 another small setback, day 20 at this point starting Spring training again it will be 30 days, day 30 10 days away from workouts, Day 40 workouts start but need a full spring, day 70 not quite ready yet, day 80 minor league rehab, day 90 still working back, day 100 OK back now. Day 125 elbow soreness.

Those 100 day setbacks really add up over a career... a couple of them a year and only might get 20 days in.

Seems exactly like Thor to me (minus the hair).

I was thinking that too but Thor is elite when healthy so I was hesitant to make the comparison

Have you seen Nate's minor league numbers and what he did to the Rays in his brief showing in the playoffs? The potential is there to be that kind of pitcher. Obviously with his continued setbacks he's nowhere near that yet.

TLDR:

Clint Frazier doesn’t want to play in Dunedin because of the sun

Jordan Montgomery loves it and thinks it feels like a big-league park

f***ing millionaires complaining, the worst.

I support the Yankees and if they decide to forfeit the game and give the Jays the W, they should not have to play in Dunedin. If they don't want to forfeit the games, they should shut their pieholes and show up and play. It's the same for both teams.

Although Frazier might actually have the albino gene, so there's that.

He's ginger so he has a reason to hate the sun.

How do they feel about playing in Oakland?

Trade proposal from The Athletic...thoughts?

Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds

Blue Jays acquire: RHP Luis Castillo, RHP Jared Solomon

Reds acquire: SS Jordan Groshans, RHP Alek Manoah

The Blue Jays had a terrific offseason. They signed outfielder George Springer, brought back left-handed starter Robbie Ray, traded for southpaw Steven Matz and landed closer Kirby Yates in free agency. However, one vital area wasn’t addressed: acquiring a No. 2 starter behind left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu in their rotation. This trade would solve that. Luis Castillo, 28, is in his prime and has been really consistent over the last couple of seasons. In 2019, he went 15-8 with a 3.40 ERA and 3.70 FIP. Last year, he posted a 3.21 ERA and a 2.65 FIP in 12 starts and averaged 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

Most evaluators think Castillo has even more upside if he can harness his breaking ball and improve his fastball command. But to acquire him, the Blue Jays would have to take a huge hit in their farm system. However, they could rationalize giving up top shortstop prospect Jordan Groshans because they have Bo Bichette entrenched at the position in the majors, and although it would be tough to part with right-hander Alek Manoah, it would be worth the gamble because Castillo is a proven commodity and the Blue Jays are ready to make a World Series push. Since the Blue Jays would be giving up two elite prospects, they’d probably insist on receiving a second player in the deal. Right-hander Jared Solomon would make sense considering he’s a mid-level prospect, but he should make it to the majors as a middle reliever in time.

The Reds’ financial situation is dire. They must prioritize moving proven commodities for top prospects if they want to balance their financial books over the next few seasons. They’ve had so much trouble trying to solve their shortstop position that they even moved Eugenio Suárez there this week to see if it would work. Groshans, 22, would serve as a long-term solution at shortstop, and allow top prospects Jose Garcia and Jonathan India to eventually compete for the second-base job. Manoah, 23, was the Blue Jays’ first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft (No. 11 overall). He has a huge arm with a fastball that registers in the upper 90s and a nasty hard slider. His change-up needs more development, but overall, the stuff plays.

Bottom line: This would be an impactful trade for both teams. The Blue Jays get the starter who could put them over the top and Reds get significant prospects for the long haul.

I don't think I give up Groshans and Manoah for Castillo (and "guy who might eventually be a middle reliever so really is a non-entity"). Castillo is a good target, but cost is too high for me.

I trade AM + JG for the 28 year old All Star pitcher in a second.

Address's the teams biggest need and gives the Jays a fighting chance in a playoff series with Ryu and Castillo back to back. Otherwise even if they make the playoffs they are done.

If you don't care about winning this year than those are 2 great future prospects.

Manoah is not someone I would trade....Period. Sorry.

This seems like a foolish stance to take. So he looked (very) good in a handful of ST innings. He's still an unproven pitcher, we don't even know if he can cut it as a starter yet! Castillo is an elite pitcher in his prime who we would have for three seasons under team control. Don't know if the difference in price between Castillo and Manoah is Groshans, but that should certainly be a conversation starter between the two teams.

This may shock some, but I would do that deal for 4 years of Castillo control.

3 years, he's a FA for the 2023-24 offseason.

Based on a handful of spring training innings? Get real dude. Anyone is tradeable if it's the right trade.

This front office likely agrees with you. They've said as much basically with their comments on a belief on player development and letting prospects prove themselves in the same franchise vs using them as trade capital.
