leaffie Verified Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 My son in law,, who is the most wonderful guy has a very bad stutter that was getting worse as he got older? Good for George Springer for helping others with the same problem.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Lifetime stutterer here also for over 60 yrs. Yes, for a number of years I avoided public talking to avoid embarrassed and being laughed at. But I have learned to turn a negative into a positive in my late teens into my 20s when I was single. 3 of my friends and myself were out at a pickup bar and we noticed a gorgeous woman (think Linda Ronstadt or Marie Osmond) who was spurning all the advances from the guys. We placed bets which one of us could get her up for a dance. My buddies who were quite the ladies men also struck out. I bet them 20 dollars a piece that I could get a dance out of her. I went up to her and my stuttering was terrible but I did manage to eventually ask her to dance. She felt so bad for me she replied back "I would love to" !!!.....haha Now my stuttering only pops up when answering the phone or when ordering thru a speaker system at a drive thru. I also know what "key words" to avoid. It's funny how certain situation make it worse. For me lately, it's words that start with d.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Not S? Not that I recall. I'll pay more attention though. I know W gives me trouble at times though. Someone asks "where do you live" and I usually have to say "the beach - Wasaga Beach". I can't lead with the W word.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 From the little glimpses that we have of the guy from interviews George Springer seems like a really good dude. The stuttering support he's offered for kids is very inspiring, since the spring lockdown my daughter has started to deal with some stuttering issues herself. Oddly enough I've even noticed to see it creep in a little bit in myself despite not having any memories of dealing with it at all in my previous 4+ decades of existence.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 On Writer's Bloc today, Mark Shapiro was on and spoke about the Matz trade. He said that the free agent market for starting pitchers is 'very tough' this year and Ross had to find other ways to address our pitching needs. I found that interesting.

Those don't exactly sound like the words of an executive who plans to spend money in the free agent pitching market. Hopefully it's just posturing towards agents though.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Kirk putting in the work. We could have 2 players drop more than 40lbs this off season!

Unfortunately this SP market aside from less than a handful of guys is basically all guys looking at 1 year deals, which puts the Jays in a tough spot. If Ray didn't spend a month here he likely would have signed elsewhere as well. In hindsight, the 3/40 for Gausman, assuming every other major signing would have worked out the same (Springer, Semien, Yates) would have been great.

He said in an interview how advanced our pitching analytics were and he thought he could really benefit and get better if he had more time to work with the Jays. I'm still hoping for Paxton though.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Apparently the Jays are considering Trevor Rosenthal and are getting trade interest in Grichuk and Gurriel... Take that for what it's worth...

You can't watch these highlights and tell me he hasn't lost weight. Hard to tell. Uniform vs. gym clothes. He looks like a fatty in both videos, sorry. Not that there's anything wrong with him. Captain Kirk is fine the way he is.

I'm indifferent to Walker, I can see why some want him back and some don't, but it's possible he's looking for more than a year at the moment or a higher AAV than they want to give him. Him and Matz project very similarly next season, and that's with Matz being tire fire last year and being in an org run by Brodie at the time (probably not as optimal for pitchers as the Jays org). They might circle back to Walker at some point either way. Still, as much as money helps the Jays, for one year pillow contracts to pitchers, that's not their strong point. For hitters it's different, hence why Semien might have found it attractive.

It may just be that the Jays want him back also but told him to get offers and let them match it before accepting the other teams offer?
