The claim that the entire country supports the Blue Jays is something I don’t really agree with. Plenty of Tigers fans in Windsor-Essex county. Still a fair number in London-Middlesex too. I would assume that there are a number of Mariners fans in BC as well. Then you have Quebec where a lot of people will not convert to supporting a Toronto team after the Expos left. Yes, there are a lot of Blue Jay fans across Canada. But not all Canadian baseball fans like the Blue Jays.

Nobody is saying that every Canadian likes the Blue Jays, but even in places where lots of people like other teams the majority of people probably prefer the Jays. Probably. Maybe not true in some very specific locations - I know some communities in Atlantic Canada are big Red Sox fans.

The TV deal component is the main factor from what I've always heard. Canada's rating don't count and the TV aspect is en enormous part of the revenue.

I was just thinking they could make their own money by having exclusive broadcast rights on their own networks. But that has nothing to do with US TV rights and dealings with the league.

That said, this is the roadblock that I've heard Bob McCown talk about multiple times with people in the business from the US years and years ago. Maybe it's not as much of a stumbling block anymore in our more interconnected world.

Christ my memory is awful, but I'm pretty sure I met someone from this board at this Baltimore/Toronto spring training game. It was awesome because they made Bo and Vlad surprise additions to the lineup.
