Relievers market suxxxxxxxxx... we'll have to pay big.

Relievers are going for starter money?

Then buy starters and run them once through the order every three days.

This is where we might be headed but anecdotally I've heard the 120+ relievers get their arm messed up pretty quick. I remember Eichorn and Ward complaining after their high inning seasons. Eichorn was 70 games 160 innings or so in 1986, and Ward 70 - 125 in 1990.

However that is not where this is headed exactly. More like 40 games 140 innings. Any thoughts on whether that kind of usage pattern will cause issues?

They'll complain about not getting wins, but that can be addressed by using a 1 winning opener, flipping piggy back arrangements, so guys can vulture 15+ wins in good seasons.

Yeah those older guys were being abused. It was back-to-back outings, not enough days off in between multi-inning outings, etc.

The modern approach is more gentle. There are also more advanced ways to measure pitcher fatigue.

Major League Baseball announced today that former Red Sox general manager and Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein has joined the commissioner’s office as a consultant to Rob Manfred. Specifically, Epstein will focus his efforts on “on-field matters,” including (but presumably not limited to) the effects that proposed rule changes would bring about.

Would definitely be in on Kluber for that price. And probably Paxton.

I definitely prefer either of those over paying $15 million per season for Tanaka. Way more upside with the first two options, even if they have very risky injury profiles.

Kluber is just going to pick the best "fit" so the team would need to convince him in non-monetary ways. I assume most teams will be willing to pay him a fair one year salary. Ross Atkins was the director of player development when Cleveland acquired and developed Kluber so maybe there is something there...

It's not clear if Paxton wants a $12M pillow contract of if he is trying to max out the years?

If Tanaka wants $15M he might settle for a bit less...

Depends If Jays sign one SP or two. If it’s one, I hope it’s not Kluber or Paxton. Not like Ryu is even an iron horse so it’d be nice to pick up a SP you could reasonably expect will be there for you in the playoffs (hoping you get there of course). So in the scenario of signing one guy, I’d take Tanaka if it’s those 3. I’ll agree there’s less upside though

There’s too many advanced stats to keep up with. Just reading an article about Boston’s interest in Semien and what it means for Bogey and apparently he’s like the worse SS in baseball per Statcast outs above average.. and he’s been been progressively bad for a few years..which doesn’t track with Fantrax

Kluber’s price would be fair for most teams even in this environment. Competition will be big for him.

Honestly, I don't think I'd mind all three of them at those prices. Ryu, Pearson, Kluber, Paxton, Tanaka would be a pretty amazing rotation. Risky, but amazing.

Damn that's way too risky for me. Ryu is kind of injury prone, Pearson doesn't likely have enough innings under his belt to last a full major league season and missed a chunk of time last season with elbow issues, Kluber has basically missed two full seasons including just coming off of a shoulder injury, Paxton is lucky to reach 150 innings and is coming off of back surgery and elbow/forearm problems. And that's without mentioning that Tanaka has been pitching with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament for years. Yikes.

I think someone will give Takana 3/45 at least

I'd rather have Price at 2 and 32. Stripling for Price. Go make the trade. The Dodgers can go over the cap, but it seems like a point of pride with management staying under having been under the last 3 years. This would give them some salary flexibility to deploy capital elsewhere.

DJ's deal should at least help set the Springer market. After DJ signs teams can back to his agent and say quit comparing your client to the Rendon contract. Here's DJ's deal and the realities of today's world.

All the Jays can f***ing do is talk to the guy and offer him a contract, it takes 2 to tango, folks. It's as if they haven't been aggressive, right? *smh*

Also hearing rumors that the #Dodgers are close to finalizing a deal with Justin Turner. Expected soon.

I think fans thinking we might get Lindor, very realistic. Getting Springer.. def possibility but some things working against us. Bauer, mmm difficult to tell, but my gut tells me no. DJL, I never thought he would come here and those who did were living a pipe dream IMO.

Guys like JBjr, Semien, Didi, much more realistic.

well we can see where the contract settles and the reports that come after. There's a big difference between the Jays walked away because the money was too much and the jays were willing to offered a similar amount and he chose the Yankees. I would love to hear the Jays offered more and he took less to stay with the Yankees. That would give me more hope for the remaining guys.
