Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Our front office would easily give that to Bo and Vlad right now if they wanted this right? Does anyone know what the actual contract would work out for his free agent years (assuming he got near the top end for all arb years). Its about 6 years 150 mil with the option included. The Springer contract except Wander would be way younger
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 That’s a 1 yr/38 million dollar option?? Jesus Of course not. It's the Rays. The contract is 182/11. 25M club option on 12th year. $3M bonuses for every Top 5 MVP finish starting in 2028.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Seems reasonable for both sides His ceiling is a hall of famer but with such little MLB experience it's a reasonable mitigation of risk for both Franco and rhe Rays
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Would Bo accept a similar deal?
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Would Bo accept a similar deal? We'd all consider Franco the better player here no? Although Bo has more MLB experience so the risk should technically slightly less.

There’s absolutely ZERO chance Wander is still on the Rays in 6 years time anyways, so the option doesn’t really matter for them

In that case the Rays wouldn’t be able to offload him before the contract becomes expensive and they’d be stuck paying him like 50% of their payroll
Davie Verified Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I get that this money sets Franco up for the rest of his life, but i can't for the life of me understand why you would commit to a contract like that this early if your Franco. He has a full season like he had the 2nd half of last season (which is a fair projection for him), he's probably looking at Tatis money at the very least. Makes all the sense in the world though for the Rays to try and get this deal done early though.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Would Bo accept a similar deal? Just my gut/opinion.. However, kids who are trying to set themselves and their family for generations are more apt to take a team friendly contract that buys out FA years etc, in case tomorrow they have a career threatening injury. Guys with Bichette, Biggio, Guerrero, etc, as their last names have never had to worry about money and don't have that same risk/reward equation as most international kids/players in general. Point being, I think knowing they have a cushion to fall back on, kids with MLB fathers etc, will be less likely to forgo FA years or do "Team" friendly contracts...

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 There’s absolutely ZERO chance Wander is still on the Rays in 6 years time anyways, so the option doesn’t really matter for them They kept Longoria until his age-32 season (and sold at the right time). I don't think they'll be in any rush to trade a 26-year old Franco if he becomes what they think he will. They probably just bought his entire 20s.

This one is way more likely to deliver very high surplus value.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 (edited) Now he's cleared waivers, holy s***. Hmm... Yeah I thought someone rebuilding would pick up Clint Frazier OK well I guess now someone will prompty sign him to a one year free agency deal on the cheap. Cause now they can do it without even having to give the Yankees cash or a low level prospect in return AND he won't be the beneficiary of arbitration (right?) ... I'm pretty sure he goes through Arb, but it's likely near league min anyhow.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I'm pretty sure he goes through Arb, but it's likely near league min anyhow. Ah OK. Released players are still eligible for arbitration still unless they get non-tendered by a team and elect free agency?

That’s a pretty big decision to make when you’re 20 and staring at enough guaranteed money to set up you, your family both close and extended for their next 10 generations. Tell me you’d turn it down because you’re hoping in 6 years you’re still perfectly healthy and one of the top players in baseball. That’s an insane decision to be presented with

Yeah, but it’s surplus vale they’ll never truly take advantage of unless there’s some drastic changes in the CBA that requires a salary floor

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 How is Tampa still allowed to keep a franchise. Enough is enough already. That market will not support baseball.

Ehjays Verified Member Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 MLB, MLBPA Agree To Move Tender Deadline Up To November 30 By Anthony Franco | November 23, 2021 at 8:57pm CDT Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have agreed to move this year’s deadline for teams to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players up from December 2 to November 30 at 8:00 pm EST, according to reports from Robert Murray of FanSided and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic (Twitter links). The decision moves the tender deadline before the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement, which is scheduled to happen at 11:59 pm EST on December 1. If a new agreement is not reached within the next eight days, it’s generally expected that the league would institute a lockout and subsequent transactions freeze. The MLBPA recently put together a 36-page document outlining the potential parameters of a lockout for players and their representatives, according to a report from Evan Drellich and Rosenthal. Leaving the tender deadline on December 2 would’ve left arbitration-eligible players in a state of limbo over the course of a potential transactions freeze. Many could’ve been left with uncertainty about whether their current clubs intended to bring them back next season while awaiting a bargaining process that could take weeks or months to resolve. Against that backdrop, the final few hours of the current CBA could present a hectic time for teams eager to finalize moves before the potential transactions freeze. Certain players, meanwhile, might feel pressure to sign contracts for 2022 rather than risk having to linger in free agency over the course of a lockout and face a potential rushed free agent period were CBA negotiations to linger near or into next year’s Spring Training. By forcing teams to make the final call on their arbitration-eligible players early, some non-tendered options could look to catch on with a new club on December 1 and avoid that uncertainty altogether.
