Ryu for 4/80 or Thor for 5/100? Thor also has the TJ in the rear view mirror now.

True, that's a good comp in retrospect concerning health and performance. Aside from age.

IÂ’m surprised Rodon didnÂ’t get the QO. HeÂ’s like Ray-lite

No QO for Kershaw either. I have a suspicion he's 5 pitches from tommy John surgery so that's a risky play. I'd definitely be in on Rondon. I'm shocked he didn't get a QO. With no draft pick attached he's a logical person to go after.

Yeah Kershaw I kinda get as they’re probably working together (him and LA) to see where things go with the injury… Rodon is really shocking to me.

No QO for

- Steven Matz

- Jon Gray

- Carlos Rodon

- Anthony DeSclafani

- Clayton Kershaw

- Kevin Gausman (already received one in the past)

- Max Scherzer (already received one in the past)

- Marcus Stroman (already received one in the past)

That’s a pretty good list of starters to choose from without compensation attached.

Same

Unless they already have a handshake agreement that they'll have an extension done soon

That'd be quite the gamble signing Thor to 4 x 25 or 5 x 20 or something like that.

Apparently Verlander is having a show case tomorrow for teams to watch him pitch. I bet he signs with the Yankees if he looks good.

Interesting stuff on how the Braves made huge in-season changes to their defensive positioning (to shift a ton more) and how much it helped them. Yet we still had to listen to ignorant broadcasters talk about how shifts don't work in the playoffs because players are willing to sacrifice more and cut down their swings.

It seemed like they also pulled starters early, used openers a couple times. I think Fried had the longest start in the playoffs at 6 innings. Ian Anderson got pulled after 5 with a no-hitter. In his start before that he was pulled after 4, giving up only 1 run.

These are the kind of moves you'd hear about from the old school guys when they don't work, but when they work no one says anything.

Sources: Marcus Semien is one of the many free agents under consideration by the #Mariners early in the offseason. Semien, 31, is believed to prefer West Coast clubs and has experience in the AL West; the Mariners already have shown sincere interest. @MLBNetwork @710ESPNSeattle

While Semien is receiving interest at shortstop, the Mariners are intrigued by his experience at second base in Toronto. The Mariners' current plan is for J.P. Crawford to remain at shortstop. @JonHeyman reported today Seattle is expected to be a big spender. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Where did you read Thor will get 4 x 25 or 5 x 20?

Just a few posts back in this thread MikeM said he thought Thor could get $100 million on the open market.

I feel like Thor could get 100M on the open market.

The Rockies didn't trade their impending FA's (in one of the strongest seller's markets in a long time) because they had the QO to offer, and then let Gray go without offering him one. That's definitely the most Rockies thing to do.

As far as Syndergaard, he hasn't pitched in 2 years (except for a couple of innings in Sept this year). I don't see anyone offering him $100m, and I doubt he even takes anything other than a one year deal since he could bet on himself for a year and enter the market next winter in a much better position to cash out.

Yeah. I see Thor accepting a QO form the Mets, then waltzing into next offseason as a free agent without the QO hanging over him looking to get paid.

That said, there probably are some teams out there that might offer a 2 year deal (2/30) or maybe 2+option (2/30 + 15m team option, 2M buyout kinda thing). Even something like that is pretty risky given his recent history. No way in hell he gets anything close to 100 million over 4 years. He'd be extremely lucky to get half that.

Andrew Heaney is going to the Dodgers on a 1 year deal. I think I read the Jays were interested.

Every team was interested in Heaney. He's the posterchild for having great peripherals with bad results.

Duffy would be a good target if the Jays don't retain Matz.

Sources: The #Angels are working to add at least one and possibly two impact starting pitchers this offseason. They’re already showing interest in free agent left-handers Robbie Ray and Eduardo Rodríguez. @MLBNetwork

They’re going to settle for Rodriguez instead of an actual ace, and it won’t go well for them.
