intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Wow...that is insane... How would BJMB react if this was happening in TO? Such a bad take when over-paid athletes don't own their lack of success. I really don't care about sports fans taking some s*** from athletes, but it is a pretty bad look for the Mets brand for players to be openly indignant about their performance like this.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Ugh. I need to go to bed It'll be really interesting to see how MLB handles this though. I also wonder what fine print there is in Lindor's contract? They'll probably just have to issue an apology. I believe there have been players that flipped off the fans, which would be considered worse than giving them a simple thumbs down. And I believe they didn't even get a fine.

Yeah, especially the $300m man. He’s been hot poo at the dish all year and is 4 for 24 since coming off the DL, is that really a reason to be pimping off when you hit a double?

This. I could see the Mets themselves implementing some sort of punishment. I doubt it would be a suspension, but I fully expect an apology. If MLB gets involved and/or issues a suspension - I think that's a joke and a sign they went full snowflake.

Someone probably has to deal with guy in an office setting
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Lol. Someone probably has to deal with guy in an office setting I have no idea what the context of this gif is, but I have almost 100% confidence that this guy (and nearly every fan) would never be able to handle the live pressure and relentless criticism at their places of work that pro athletes do. They'd run crying to HR, but (for example) Alejandro Kirk has to read about his own home broadcast calling his error "disgusting" and just swallow it.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 I'm trying to think of the last 40-hr catcher. Do we havre to go back to Piazza? Javy Lopez

Best tweet I saw was it took 3 weeks for the Mets thumbs down to get noticed, because the players only did it when they did something good..lol
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Salvador Perez is gonna crack 40 homeruns as a catcher and barely crack 3 WAR because he's one of the worst defensive catchers in the league. He might be a near 5 win catcher with an electronic strikezone though. 5th highest SLG% with 500 PA in the MLB since 2020. Bonkers!
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 lol lol... how on Earth did these morons think this was a good idea? I just *smh* this morning when I saw it on QP, so stupid.

Also, people shouldn’t just take this years FG defensive numbers as Bible verses. Teams have their own calculations. He’s always been a solid C. Dude is a stud this year

Pitchers and coaches have raved about Perez for years now. I'm inclined to think he's adding value in ways not really captured well by his defensive WAR. Game calling? Game planning? Being a calming presence? I dunno.

I suspect this is true, but until last year - the man's bat was certainly not worth that type of contract. I haven't heard of him changing his swing - and certainly his approach to swing at everything hasn't changed, but maybe KC knows something we don't (or maybe they got lucky and he became an above average hitter at age 30???). Maybe he's 'working out' with Robinson Cano now in the offseason.

The only thing that hurts him is his framing.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 The only thing that hurts him is his framing. How exact is the science of FG Catcher D? I mean, looks like he’s been steady his whole career and now he’s waxing awful? I mean, framing doesn’t seem like a skill that would deteriorate like CF/OF and SS aspects

You won’t quite have the peaks but you’ll definitely be at a much better baseline if you’re trying to maintain your gains
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Keibert Ruiz called up by the Nats, deservedly so.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 I don't think Lindor has much to worry about given his 10 year $341 million contract. And to think that he's turned into such a classy statesman giving the middle finger to the fans. Real win all around for the Mets with this deal and contract. Jays dodged a real bullet from the looks of things not making the trade for Lindor. I wanted Lindor big time, glad they missed out on that. Also really interesting the Jays FO was comfortable adding a player who would command a contract like that. Maybe Springer doesnt happen if they got Lindor. Regardless, s*** worked out.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 You already making up excuses for your 'spect. Nah, no need to, he's gonna be good at the plate. Only worry is if his noodle arm means other teams will run wild on the basepaths, and he needs another position.
