Damn... how did he get anything on that throw.

Even crazier, not his first time pulling this off.

Who would be a better shortstop:

A) Cavan Biggio

B) Jose Iglesias with a fully torn right UCL so he basically has to throw with wrist flicks or extreme pain

This is fun man.

Absurd pop time for a 38 year old catcher with his mileage. Totally embarrassed the baserunner.

Cavan Biggio. l.o.l. Several people on the board are seemingly impressed with his play at third. Arm is accurate from what I have heard and if true he could maybe play a David Eckstein level.

If he plays at third Biggio will end up playing at traditional short stop position 1/3 of the time or so on shifts anyway... which kind of makes me wonder why Semien isn't playing third instead...

I remember when they first started shifting Lawrie went from third to between first and second and I think the ss and 2b stayed roughly up the middle. I remember this because it made Lawrie the best player in baseball throughout the first half of 2012. He was ahead of Trout in WAR until all star break 2012.

Part of it was the weird shift, and the formulas thought he was getting balls 100 feet away... part of it was that Lawrie was awesome in 2011 and really good in first half 2012. There was a discussion whether it should be "Trout and Harper" or "Trout, Lawrie, and Harper", and it wasn't dumb because Lawrie was competitive with them in WAR as of late June 2012.

Is anybody raking advantage of players relative strengths and weaknesses for the shifts?

If for example Biggio is indeed far inferior to Bo and Semien in terms of arm strength, wouldn't it makes sense for Biggio to play either near the bag at third (with Bo deep short, and Semien deep up the middle), or the 'shallow' second basemen (with Semien in medium right?)

Love Yadi, Boxy's favourite catcher, lol.

Not very smart attempting a play like that in a meaningless spring training game

On the other hand, a perfect time to push yourself and see if you CAN make the play so when it comes to a real game you know whether to go for it or eat it and not risk an error.

RIP Rheal "Frenchy" Cormier. Dealing with a friend and his pancreatic cancer fight right now...makes this one hit home

The Odorizzi contact is, uh, team friendly.

Odorizzi is guaranteed $23.5MM. That takes the form of a $6MM signing bonus, a $6MM salary in 2021, a $5MM salary in 2022, and a $6.5MM player option for 2023. The option comes with a $3.25MM buyout. Performance escalators can max the option out at $12.5MM while also bringing the potential buyout figure up to $6.25MM. Combining to make 30 appearances from 2021-22 will bring Odorizzi to just shy of $24MM over those two seasons in salary, while incentives could push the deal up to $30MM.

On top of the $5MM base salary for the 2022 season, Odorizzi would make $500K for reaching 100 innings pitched, $1MM apiece for throwing 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 innings, with another $1.25MM if he reaches the 160 inning mark. The deal also contains some deferred money.

Interesting contract. I like it.

I just can't picture him as a pitcher. One thing for sure, he'll be the best damn pinch running pitcher of all time lol.

Time is a flat circle

The Mets have such horrible pitching depth. If Carrasco is out for any amount of time they are one more injury away from Yamamoto/Gsellman/Reid-Foley starting games.

It's hard to see it working out this year.

I don’t understand why Jays aren’t selling tickets to Dunedin regular season. I guess because they will but don’t know at what capacity? Doesn’t make sense since they’re selling them for ST.

They remind me of the 2013 Toronto Blue Jays. Taking a mediocre team and adding lots of flashy additions. End result was a very flawed team.

Unusual that they will just letter rip with full capacity for opening day and then scale back...

Apparently Texas has gotten rid of all mask and social distancing laws today too.

We're finally getting vaccine doses in Canada. Apparently we're getting more doses in Sask this month than we got in the first 3 month and will be combined and will be able to do 10K doses a day in April. I assume every province gets equal dose allotments. Almost 30% of our population will get dose one in Sask in the month of April alone. We might actually be able get to where Texas is by August.

And yet they are below the national average for fatalities.

Pretty much by April in most states all the people 50+ will have had access to the vaccine. There’s going to be plenty of people that avoid it but that’s on them. Jays better have Dunedin open where I’m not paying $500 ticket

Buxton is at it again!

Buxton cracked his tooth while eating steak, per Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He certainly doesn't have the best luck with injuries, though this particular issue probably won't sidetrack his season. He underwent a root canal and had a crown placed on the tooth Wednesday, so he should be able to get back into game action soon.

Damn. He seems like a prime candidate to rupture a disc while sneezing.
