Well Zaidi has a good track record. Maybe not yet as the #1 baseball guy, but a good track record nonetheless. He’s no dummy.

I mean, investing in Aaron Sanchez must mean there has got to be something more that attracts a team to him than just “touching 98” that fans aren’t privy to. Has to be, right?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's only hours into the first day of spring training, and the #Marlins and #Rays make the 1st trade of the spring: The #Rays are sending RHP John Curtiss to the #Marlins for minor-league 1B Evan Edwards, as @Ken_Rosenthal reports

The #Rays make their 2nd trade of the morning, acquiring pitchers Jeffrey Springs and Chris Mazza from the #RedSox for catcher Ronaldo Hernandez and infielder Nick Sogard, as @TBTimes_Rays and @alexspeier report.

Weird trade. Hernandez is a real prospect, and I wouldn't have thought Mazza or Springs would carry any value at all.

You implied it?! How else do you interpret your post, meat?

Oh I see you are reading into my post something that isn't there and turning it into a personal attack. This is a baseball discussion forum, and I provided some potential rationale for the Sanchez deal, that's all.

What f***ing attack, lol??? People were talking about minor-league deals not long ago, there's no rationale to pay out that much for Sanchez?

Well quite clearly a MLB front office sees otherwise.

Giants signed Aaron Sanchez to 1/4

That seems.. like a lot!

WTF

People in the industry probably like Sanchez a lot more than this message board does. 28, fantastic stuff, 3.98 career ERA, could be an elite reliever or a useful SP still. Most orgs would want a chance to work with that guy in 2021.

I might take him over Taijuan Walker!

Yeah I'm with you. I think this says two things:

1) the Rays think Springs has some serious K potential, his minor league rates were pretty absurd and he had an elite SwStr% this year. Could be another Nick Anderson/Pete Fairbanks type?

2) Sell Ronaldo Hernandez shares ASAP, although the Red Sox under Chaim Bloom are no slouches, he very well knows exactly what kind of player he's trading for.

Yeah I agree. The Giants GM knows what he's doing. Probably sees Sanchez as a high upside multi-inning reliever.

Springs doesn't have Anderson/Fairbanks stuff though. He's a changeup lefty who throws 92. It's a good changeup but he does absolutely strike me as one of those guys who will give up a bunch of runs while also getting a bunch of strikeouts. I wonder if the Rays are just kind of looking at their bullpen as a whole and, under the octopus theory, thinking that Springs gives them a much needed additional look in 2021.

That's a heck of a trade for Boston to get a real prospect for two guys who probably went unclaimed by most of the league.

Sanchez has good stuff. If he really hit 98, it's not that shocking that someone still wants him.

yeah he probably hit 98 one time then he got finger issues and shut it down!

He got a blister signing the contract.

According to SNY's Andy Martino, right-hander Taijuan Walker has emerged as the "top target" for the Mets on what remains of the free agent pitching market.

"The sides do not yet have an agreement," writes Martino, "but have engaged in extensive discussions." If something can't be worked out with Walker, the Mets could then pivot to Jake Odorizzi. Walker, 28, is said to be looking for a multi-year contract worth $10 million per year after registering a shiny 2.70 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 50/19 K/BB ratio in 53 innings (11 starts) last season between the Mariners and Blue Jays.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He wants a multi year deal with $10M+? That explains why he isn't signed yet. Hard pass for me. Hope that Mets sign him and the price for Odorizzi drops into the 2 year $25M range with a 3rd year club option.

I mean, I'm comfortable with "less than we're paying Tanner Roark" for Walker.... I just kinda wish we were paying Tanner Roark less than we're paying Tanner Roark. Also, after typing out his name thrice, I cannot believe that there is a human being named "Tanner".

Asking price is a bit high. Maybe a one year $6 million + option year with bonus' if he reached certain goals.
