Should have signed Paxton if we're so against a 2 year deal.

I think we have to assume there's a good reason why Paxton only got 1 year $8.5M - and it's probably because there's a very high chance he's cooked.

Jays have had an off-season to the sun, relax.

I agree the offseason was already good but I'm saying that only because it seems we're still in the market for another starter. I feel like a 1 year deal is a lot better than giving a multi year deal or spending assets at the deadline.

Asking price is a bit high. Maybe a one year $6 million + option year with bonus' if he reached certain goals.

Yeah I'd be interested in that.

He wouldn't sign that if his asking price is as high as 20M? Unless the incentives are large raises in his "player" option year.

There's still others out there, or maybe they just sign Rosenthal and allocate funds for the deadline, right?

I don't understand your latter point, lol...

Yup... that would be the type of offer where reports come out saying we were in constant talks but couldn't make it work. Sanchez just got 4 million dollars yesterday.

You typically don't get to buy players at the deadline. Usually it involves trading your prospect capital unless the pitcher flat out sucks. We can save some of that if we go after a pitcher now with minimal risk.

I don't get that, and I was a fanboy back in the day. King always reminds me.

Deadline deal is for an ACE, ala the Price trade, you have to move accordingly at the deadline and your most likely eating most if not all of the money to offset the return.

Signing Odorizzi doesn't stop that, bro.

Hopefully the Mariners are far enough out and we can trade for Paxton!

That's a heck of a trade for Boston to get a real prospect for two guys who probably went unclaimed by most of the league.

Hacking Grant's account is a lifetime ban. Laika is working on figuring out who this is now

Tim Tebow has retired.

Or, opted to announce a "retirement" instead of having his release notice public.

Lol, ZIPS has him projected for -3.6 WAR in 92 games!

If he started played baseball out of high school instead of football, he might have actually been able to have a lengthy MLB career.

This deserves its own thread.

Dear god. 14 years is a lot for anyone regardless of how good he is right now. I'd typically play out the cheap years to build enough of a track record before committing this much unless you're getting a drastic pay cut.

Fernando Tatis Jr.'s 14-year contract begins in 2021. He gets a full no-trade clause, a signing bonus north of $10 million and there's no money deferred in the deal, per source. Tatis Jr. becomes the second MVP Sports client to land a $300M+ deal, joining teammate Manny Machado.

Rosenthal has signed with the A's for 1/11.

I hear some salty Jays fans crawling this way...
