The Brewers are one of two mystery teams showing interest in Justin Turner. Dodgers, Jays and one more mystery contender are in the derby. Turner will only consider contenders but has a final 4. - Heyman

Should decide within a week

Its hard to imagine Turner leaving the only team he's been relevant for and just won a world series with. Only way I see it happening is if he got lowballed by the Dodgers and we blow the offer out of the world.

I'm guessing the hold off has been that the Dodgers prefer to give a big 1 year deal since they have to deal with Seager hitting free agency next year, and they dont want Turner on the books during then.

I hope we don't go past 2 years on any offer because of his age. He's due to fall off any year now and a season after finally getting his first World Series seems like the perfect timing.

I realize the rest of his career barely counts but harsh to the three other orgs he's been a part of lol.

I'd rather the 30 yr Semien than a 2 yr deal for Turner.

Damnn... didn't even know he started with the orioles. I updated my post to say the only team he's been relevant for lol.

Same... rather give him a 3 year deal than Turner a 2 year deal. I see a lot higher upside with Semien but he's also all over the map. A 2 year deal for him would be perfect but I assume it takes 3 to get him.

I'm looking at market value for comparable catchers in recent history and either every FA catcher has been underpaid or it's Realmuto that's getting a lot more than market value. Even the extension catchers got far less AAV.

Brian McCann - 30 years old, 5/85

Yasmani Grandal - 31 years old, 4/72

Russell Martin - 32 years old, 5/82

Buster Posey - 26 years old, 9/167

Joe Mauer - 28 years old, 8/184

Yadier Molina - 30 years old (July birthday), 5/75

Realmuto - 30 years old, 5/115.5

Something doesn't add up here.

It is interesting to compare him to other free agent catchers and their deals. If you look at it that way he probably is getting too much money. But he seems to be the best Catcher in baseball now, right? Those other guys, other than Posey and Mauer who got BANK couldn't say the same. The position must be down compared to recent years but 5/115 doesn't seem so bad in that context.

Also, compare him to Springer at 6/150. Is Realmuto at 5/115 really worse? They seem like similar talents to me. I think the Phillies probably did fine but there's no doubt that they are paying the FA premium for him and that will always carry a good bit of risk.

You raise a good point about his baserunning though. That's the one issue that could really make them regret this. You would think that his foot speed would crater as he ages. 30-somethings always do, but do catchers get slower faster? Like you said he's only a good defender and a good hitter, if his baserunning craters his on field performance could take a significant hit.

Also, please account for inflation. Contracts have progressed up in every sport so using numbers from the past doesn't mean much today.

You expect me to believe that from the contracts I listed, all signed within the last 10 years, inflation accounts for Realmuto getting $5M+ than the median catcher AAV?

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Orioles have signed Freddy Galvis for $1.5 million according to a source. There is also a $250K bonus if he gets traded this year. It’s the Orioles. He could.

Apparently the Jays FO agrees with you :)

Yeah I would say Realmuto at 5/115 is better value than Springer at 6/150 honestly. Realmuto is the best catcher in the game and the deal seems pretty fair. Springer got a hell of a lot more than Justin Upton and Upton was younger.

Yes lol. It might not be the complete truth but it plays a big part. We never used to have 300 million dollar contracts before but they're being given out like candy now. Expect at least 3 players to be added to that list next offseason. It's just how things go.

Look at the market moving rapidly now. Don't care about the position players being scooped up anymore. Onto the starting pitching market!

Honestly shocked that La Stella would sign in the worst park on earth for his left handed swing.

It's a decent park for doubles hitters, which La Stella is. It actually seems like an okay fit.

It's apparently a three year deal. He's 32 now. Just taking the max guaranteed money and a starting job.

Former Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has been hired as the chief operating officer at Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan (via Twitter). He’ll have a “broad role” in the agency, which represents Robinson Cano, Yoenis Cespedes, Dominic Smith, Jeremy Jeffress, Shelby Miller, Jazz Chisholm and recently retired CC Sabathia, among others.

Not sure Brodie's replacement will have as easy a time finding a new job...

Brodie has 99 problems but a dick pic ain't one

Who wouldn't love smashing dingers into McCovey Cove?

O'Day to the Yankees. Very solid signing, guy outperforms his advanced stats like clockwork.

Not sad about him going to the Yankees though, since he's also a bitch.

My strongest memory of Aaron Loup was game 2 ALDS 2015 with my son. Tie game and Odor coming up. Loup was waemed up in the pen and had been shaky as of late. John Gibbons comes out the dugout while the whole place is tense and eerily silent. He puts up his left hand while this one voice in the crowd near us rings out. "No Gibby, don't do it!". Nervous laughs all around us. FWIW he made the out.

"Gibby don't do it! " became a household meme for my son and I for years afterwards.

Always wished we had gone to game 5 instead of 1 and 2 but oh well that's life. LOL :)

Cash used Loup in many high leverage situations last year and to be honest, he didn't s*** the bed. I couldn't stand him as a Jay because we used him like he was Mariana Rivera.
