I am ALL for more pitching and agree 110%.. I just think we need to concentrate on SPs more than RPs.. Assuming they are not doing both concurrently.

Depends. Even if they get one more legit SP (Odorizzi/Paxton), they’re still stockpiling a bunch of poopy guys they’re counting on bounce backs from. If they’re going to get into the whole piggy-backing thing like last year in the playoffs, it’d be nice to have some legit shut down RP. Not just good one year but established RP like Yates and TR

Tha Yankees are aquiring high risk / gamble SPs too but they (Taillon and Kluber) have higher upside

We definitely need another frontline SP IMO. That said I wouldn't hate the idea of adding another Odorizzi type and then possibly adding that frontline guy at the trade deadline.

Maybe the interest in relief pitchers is for when Pearson pitches they may have a limit of maybe 4 innings max for him and then 2 slated to go right behind him till the closer??

If I'm wrong....what's that saying?...you can never have too much pitching (except crappy pitching!)

Dude, I never said or insinuated in any manner or form that was from me.. I even wrote I couldn't put/ size the graphs properly. Anyone who really thinks I wrote that is a moron. It is pretty obvious which are my comments and which are cut and paste. Your post is ridiculous.

Look no further than the Tampa series. I mean, you can compile the 3rd most projected WAR for the long season but if you get in a 3 game series come playoff time & Game 1 you find yourself in a high leverage spot w/everyone ready to go and the first person you go to is AJ Cole (who ends up only being able to find a minor league deal the following off-season), there’s probably some roster construction things to look at if you expect to be a playoff team

We really need a starter no? More Arms is good but we really need a starter.

Ya I agree... seems like we're gonna employ the "opener" thing and try to complete a lot of games by committee. Personally I can't stand that type of baseball.

Something like that, agreed.

I'd be comfortable with that cost too. Honestly, with their FO, I could easily see it being cheaper. Would not be surprised at all if replacing Grsohans with Hiraldo would get it done.

I think opener is probably his destiny, but I also think "opener who can go 5-6 innings sometimes" is where I'd be aiming with him.

There are so many creative things they could start doing. I remember Pearson was on a 5-2-5-2 innings schedule a couple of years ago. Would be interesting to see them do that with Merryweather and see where it goes.

I think we'd like to see Merryweather show he can do 1-1-1-1 for now lol. Guy is 28 and just coming to the Majors now while he's had elite stuff all this time. Poor guy can't stay healthy at all.

He is my sleeper pick difference maker for 2021. I think he is awesome, and I think his injuries are well behind him. Could be wrong of course, but fingers crossed.

@jonmorosi

Jake Odorizzi is drawing broad interest, and his market could crystallize once Trevor Bauer signs. The Angels, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Giants, and Twins have been in contact, sources say, with the Mets a possibility if they don’t sign Bauer. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Hopefully we big boy offer either him or Paxton once Bauer goes off the board. If Paxton has a big bounce back season, we could get a pick for him too lol.

What’s a reasonable projection for Odorizzi? 3 years $36M?

Would he do another 1 year $15M-$18M deal and try to re-enter the market after rebuilding his value?

I think those figures are both high.

#Bluejays have just agreed to terms with LHP Francisco Liriano, per source. Will be a non roster invitee to training camp.

Former Jays reliever was traded to Astros in the deal that brought Teoscar Hernandez to Toronto.

Love moves like these. Nothing but upside here.

Oh yeah

The Yankees didn't give a qualifying offer to Paxton (or Tanaka, but that wouldn't have mattered since he left MLB)

OK so apparently Fangraphs shows that the Blue Jays are projected for a larger increase in WAR from 2020 to 2021 than any other team in baseball
