max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I feel like the difference between Panik and Hernandez in a platoon is so small that, in the best case scenario, the increase in team WAR would be negligible at the cost of finding out over a longer period of Hernandez is actually for real. And I've been very outspoken about Hernandez being a bench player, so it's not like he's my Alejandro Kirk or Jake Marisnick. I desperately want to be proven wrong. Panik puked out a 68 WRC+ against right handed pitching last year, this isn't a guy that should be taking a single at bat away from Teoscar Hernandez. He's easily been the Jays best position player so far, and has continued on the hot streak he finished last year on. Since his callup last season he's put up a 132 WRC+, and if you change the start point to July since he really heated up that balloons up to 143 WRC+, best on the team ahead of even Bo Bichette. With the current players on the Jays roster he should be playing every day, unless you think guys like Alford or Panik are more deserving of regular at bats.

I don't even like Teoscar and 100% agree with this.
TheDragon Verified Member Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Teoscar was our best hitter in the 2nd half last year and has continued it this year. You can't put that guy 8th. We hold these f***ing guys for like 5 years and one finally is showing signs of life and we're stunting him? According to Montardo gotta balance out the lineup
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 I don't know what scrub baseball would follow that substitute rules because it's moot nobody adhere by it. Mostly all league follow substitute must listed on the line up the fact are proof Waguespack wasn't allowed in the game simply because he wasn't on the line up card. I think MLB umpires should know the rules especially one as simple as the use of a substitute player in a game. Now in the lower level of baseball there's a re entry rule where you can substitute one player and have him re enter the game one time only how do you expect everyone to keep track of which players enter and leave the game without have their names and numbers on a line up card. There's a reason on every printable line up card that's available it has a column especially for substitute players. And yet, literally in black and white in the MLB rulebook, it says potential subs don’t have to be listed on the lineup card in order to enter the game. I don’t care what other leagues do, the ump got it wrong, plainly and simply. Defend it all you like, you’re wrong too.

No you're wrong because the MLB has adapted that rule that all players and substitutes must be listed on the line up cards. This was again explained on Sportsnet yesterday why Waguespack wasn't allowed in the game and they said it was because the copy of the line up card the umpires had didn't have his name on it.

That’s not exactly wrong, but the fact remains that if Charlie protests the game at that point it would be 100% upheld and the game would resume from that point because the ump literally went against an official rule.

I'm not sure what the point is in having a rule book if you're not going to update it when you change rules. It seems like it might lead to some confusion.

It seems like it might lead to some confusion. Umpires get the lineups digitally, that's where the mishap happened, they now have to confirm lineups at home plate, that's what was explained last night during the game.

The fact is there's nothing to protest the rule was adapted that all players must listed on the line up card and confirmed prior to game start. The same as double headers are only 7 innings long the rules book says all game are to be 9 innings it's something all the teams agreed to so 7 inning it is. The same with the National League which doesn't use the DH rule but this year they adapted the DH rule for both leagues and all teams agreed. The same with all players who participate in a game must be listed on the line up card and confirm prior to game start. Umpires knows the rule changes and so should all the teams.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Can’t believe that lineup card mistake is still being talked about and being defended. Who gives a f*** what the rule is... he’s done like 30 things already this season that are incredibly stupid and should be justifiably fired for. Guy is a moron plain and simple.

I don't know why they couldn't have just let Waguespack pitch. Since Snitker DID have the updated line card with Waguespack on it, it made it clear the umps dropped the ball on not checking for and printing out the revised lineup card (although I am not sure when it became known Snitker had it). And especially when the rules in the official book versus the rules they are using are in conflict (how the hell can that even be the case??). But yes Montoyo is mostly to blame for not confirming the umps had the most up to date list before the game started. And this electronic sending of the lineups is apparently not due to the virus issue but was planned for this season all along. It should have been an expected scenario that they might not check for a revised version sent out later in the day, so always confirm last minute changes verbally that they could write in if they had missed it. Conclusion: Charles is a dunce and needs to go.
