King Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 It looks like he started to grimace during the Margot at bat, re-watching the inning. It was all downhill from there.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Wow. He also had Giles pitch 3 days in a row last season shortly before the trade deadline, and Giles got hurt then too. I don't see Shatkins firing him after 2 years. They should, but it would make them look bad for hiring him in the first place. Unfortunately I think we are stuck with him.

No I think 2 years is a long enough window to realize someone’s not good enough to do the job long term. Teams fire managers after a season in this league. His firing is already justifiable.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 Any chance that Montoyo has a "Dream job" out there that may become available and he can Farrell us?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 No s*** a closer is going to say he's fine. Jesus f*** man, you're a major league manager, you should know the symptoms when a pitcher is hurting. Charles is about as smart as he is handsome.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 You realize the nice thing about only letting Romano throw 10 pitches is that he'll be available for the next game right? Could you imagine not even having him available if he goes out for a second inning? Except he didn't use one pitcher in back to back games that series - unless you consider Brian Moran a pitcher, which I don't.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 While I f***ing hate Montoyo - I do wonder how much influence the FO has on Charlie's early season use of the pitchers. Perhaps they've decided they should treat this more like spring training? Could the high performance health team be dictating the bullpen use? This level of incompetence is alarming and makes me think there might be other factors in play that we aren't privy to.

Yeah I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the FO isn't in favour of their best pitchers pitching while clearly injured, and that they'd prefer their dumb ass manager notice within 15 minutes of showing discomfort.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Montoyo was never MLB competent. If the Jays are serious about competing he's certainly not the manager to take us there. We should have won all three games in TB. It's so frustrating to watch his s*** show.

There isn't enough evidence to make that claim. I'm all for bashing Montoyo as it's well deserved, but let's not make stuff up.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I just can’t see Montoyo being able to manage a playoff series
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 The way he managed the BP in the tbay series was brutal.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 You could tell something was up with Giles early on. He was tanking his pitches into the dirt and his fastball was sailing on him. I can't believe they didn't pull him out after the first mound visit. I somewhat blame Giles as he was obviously saying he was fine when he wasn't.

I'd agree - but that wasn't what I was getting at...

I imagine adrenaline was pumping, so he may not have felt anything while on the mound... Coaches need to catch that.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 We're never going to pry Terry Francona from Cleveland are we... Never say never, but he'd have to want to leave, and we'd have to be where he'd want to go. Money isn't going to be the decider. He'll get paid wherever he goes (if he goes).
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I think if we're all honest with ourselves, 98% of us believe that Vladdy will figure it out and turn into a Top 20 bat in baseball. But it's just so frustrating to have to wait for it to happen when he looked like he was so ready to make MLB pitching his bitch 2 seasons ago.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Gibby never would have let Giles continue no matter what he said. Damn I miss him. Yup. In the Wild Card game, Osuna looked like he was willing to keep pitching through an injury, but Gibby immediately took him out. That was extra innings in an elimination playoff game. Montoyo doing this in the 3rd game of a truncated season is insanity. I mean it would be insanity regardless, but the timing makes it worse.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 beautifully handled by Charlie today. 100% of this win is on him.

He's got a problem with his swing as it relates to launch angle -Last year, 238 worst (6.3 degrees) -This year (so far!), 246 worst (-2.1 degrees)
