Reading the Orioles board is hilarious. They're actually trying to talk themselves into believing that they didn't f*** things up royally.

It's crazy. They could have cut a deal with Veen or Gonzales if they wanted to get clever. There was no reason to reach that far.

The fact that this happened because the O's messed up makes it even sweeter.

Orioles not a fan of Martin’s new haircut, shakes up the draft and he falls to #5.

Legendary post!

That is sooo true... I was just thinking the same thing... I am surprised San Diego didn't pick him. He is a beach type guy, would fit in well to SOCAL and I thought he is in the mold of the player SD likes... But their loss..

The Padres are cursed... they are one of only two teams that has not drafted an All-Star in the past 20 years. (The Mariners are the other.)

"His bat is next level and definitely the best LH bat in the class.

Let's not act like this guy isn't special."

"Elias and team deserve waaay more benefit of the doubt than saying he's "saving money" at this stage. We have some of the game's best evaluators and analytics. Let's just see! Interesting."

"As the only Orioles and Razorbacks fan on the planet I am thrilled with this pick. I've watched numerous games with Kjerstad since he came our way from Amarillo, Texas. Beautiful fluid swing, not a lot of holes, plays in an elite conference. Built perfectly for OPACY. Decent fielder. Also works with an outstanding staff in Fayetteville. Woooo Pig!"

"Definitely was here for Martin but this is where I sit now.

This guy has a fantastic bat from the left side. This also allows for a lot of options llthe rest of the draft."

Yeah something like that. Fangraphs has him as a 50FV prospect which would put him anywhere between 2 and 5 on their Jays board.

Definitely another 50 FV prospect to the growing list

I'm thinking 2. Wait... Who's #2 now? f*** it's been a long time since I looked at our farm system.

I was wondering where the hell you were? It is not like you started the thread or anything.. ;)

Oh, man! I had something important come up out of nowhere at 6:50 PM... by the time I was able to check back the draft I saw we had taken who was, IMO, the best player in the draft (and the best fit for us)... totally stoked now!

I was hoping for Veen, then Meyer, and I also would've been okay with Hancock, but getting Austin Martin at #5 is incredible!

Martin's 2020 stats: 16 games, 69 plate appearances, .377/.507/.660, 10BB, 2K.

The kid had a 2.8% K rate in 70 PA's.

Is the taxi squad idea still floating out there? No minor league season but I think if you put together top prospects team together to play against each other ahead of the big league teams would be pretty cool.

Relax dude Jesus lol.. act like you have seen a female before yikes.

Just to clarify: I jizzed the first two times due to Martin. Only the third was because of Hassell's GF.

Yes, but what is the MiLB equivalent of the SEC. Maybe somewhere between A/A+?

Average age in college will be 18-21, which sounds about right for A ball or High-A. Major difference being they use metal bats in college as opposed to wood in pro (this can be an adjustment for college players).

So potentially we could be seeing Martin as the starting CF in 2022.
