  1. Did you not read the article I quoted? Required reading for anyone who hasn't been following this since last summer: https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2021-11-01/what-comes-next-trevor-bauer-dodgers-sexual-assault-case
  2. What do you mean, that I bet on him? lol, I never liked the guy. Always thought he was off-putting and childish, and then when I looked into him a bit as he was emerging some years ago (in all those profile pieces on how he's a genius or whatever) he comes across as an autistic narcissist, lol But dude can pitch. And I was impressed with his approach to the craft, even if he was obnoxious about it online. I fully expect he'll pitch again in the MLB, and wouldn't be upset if he pitched for the Jays, but I wouldn't exactly be thrilled about it either. And, look, clearly the guy has issues with women (open relationships, flame wars on Twitter with random females, and now some sort of rape fantasy he either has or indulged someone else in). And clearly he is mentally ill (cluster B, maybe). But did he do anything wrong-wrong here under the law? I mean, it doesn't seem like he did... I don't know, it's tough defending someone who punches women with a boner in hand... but these accusations are not exactly organic.
  3. Jim isn't an attorney, but he pontificates like one on a baseball message board forum... lol Thankfully, real attorneys are considering all the evidence, such as the text messages from the Ohio woman that were recorded in this tweet:
  4. Bauer is totally the type to conflate money and principle.
  5. Hmm... https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/story/2021-11-01/what-comes-next-trevor-bauer-dodgers-sexual-assault-case
  6. Imagine Bauer appeals even a retroactive suspension... lol
  7. Bought and downloaded, thank you for the heads-up!
  8. This story is salacious as hell, I tell you what. I bet he walks on the charges, but ends up in a massive feud with Manfred when the league gives him like a 15-game suspension or something similarly non-punitive. Only Bauer would fight any length of suspension, even if it means missing just 3 starts... dude is obstinate. Disappointing seeing the same two dozen people still fighting over moral judgements on everything in the news, but mildly satisfying that Jim is still Jim, and being treated as Jim... lol
  9. lol at everyone who didn't catch this Happy Gilmore quote.

Except that some are drafted to teams of their choosing, going back 25 years ago to when Kobe was drafted by the Lakers. I see your point, but I still think it's gotten out of hand with the way they demand to be teamed up with fellow superstars and how they undermine the GMs so publicly as well.

Yah, that's a good point. Football teams also have way more players than basketball teams, too, so that helps dilute some of the star power one player could have. In football I meant more the star QBs. Still, for all the franchise QBs I don't think they're on the level of string-pulling the GM like the way superstars in the NBA do and get away with. And I wouldn't like following a team that can have its multi-year plan abandoned by the whims of its star player.

Oh, no doubt the game itself plays a role in making it a players' league—one superstar can make a huge difference—but I don't think I've ever seen so many GMs undermined for so long as I have in the NBA. I mean, you could argue a superstar in the NFL is huge, and can turn around a s***** team, and probably in the NHL (perhaps more so in the 90s than now...?), but for all the weight NFL and NHL superstars throw, it's not on the level of what goes on in the NBA. I think it's gotten to the point where GMs have very little control of their own teams.

This is exactly right. The NBA is too much of a players' league.
  14. Sorry for my absence... been dealing with some personal stuff, but am now back in the full swing. Thanks, Spanky, for being so cool about it, and a shout-out to Carlos for reaching out as well
