A 6-foot-1, 200-pound outfielder who was one of just three Louisville players to start all 17 games during the 2020 season, Britton has a fairly loud lefthanded bat. A career .280/.395/.455 hitter in 110 games with the Cardinals, Britton has a pretty lefthanded swing with good bat speed and some impressive exit velocity numbers. His hitting ability is the best tool in his box, and before play shut down for the 2020 season, Britton led all Division I hitters with 11 doubles. His power has been more doubles than over-the-fence in his time in the ACC, though he did hit five home runs in 28 games with a wood bat last summer in the Cape Cod League. It’s possible with a few swing adjustments Britton could be geared for more home run juice. Defensively, Britton fits best in left field, where he’s a fringy runner with an arm that ranges from a 45- to 50-grade tool. He’s caught in the past but has been behind catchers at Louisville and during his time in the Cape and scouts don’t think he’s a good receiver behind the plate. Britton’s value comes from his bat, and his power potential from the left side puts him somewhere in the 5-7 round range.

Reading this makes me think he either grows into homerun power or the Jays believe they can tweak his swing/swing plane to make that happen.

Martin, then every other guy projects to be either slot, or slightly under slot. No punt picks here.

I really liked this draft, especially the Frasso and Britton pick.

A very solid draft. With Martin falling to them at 5, I think it made the later rounds a little safer than they probably would've been otherwise. But they didn't throw any picks - which is great.

It will be interesting if they try to sign anyone outside of the draft but I think you can't complain about what we got. Best bat in the draft and all-around great player, a solid middle/end of the rotation type pitcher, a solid pitcher that probably slots for a reliever position, a high upside pitcher who is a bit of a project, and another solid hitter who is a bit of a project.

So the Orioles will take all that money they saved and offer it to Baumler? I guess that would salvage the draft for them but you have to wonder if this was really the plan or if they misread the board and this was a fallback.

Elias already came out and said that some pitchers he liked for the 30th overall pick were gone when it was the O's turn.

I think Bitsko was the plan before Tampa took him. Bitsko + Hjerstad would've been a solid haul, but they lost that gamble.

I was all pretty bizarre. You'd have thought they would have taken Cole Wilcox/JT Ginn/Kelley/Jones in the 2nd and Tanner Witt in the 3rd....

Kjerstad, Westburg, Wilcox (or Ginn), Witt, Mayo, Baumler would have been a good haul and a strategy you could defend.

I really have no idea what they were thinking of doing. If the plan was to take Bitsko, the idea is that you coordinate that with him and then he goes and tells every other team he wants some absurd amount, which guarantees he'll drop to your pick.

It kinda just sounds like they hoped he would fall to them?

Bitsko seems like a smart career-oriented kid (see: his reclassification), I wouldn't be surprised if he wouldn't commit to pushing himself to Baltimore of all places. A team like Tampa is waaaaay more equipped to develop him.

I always enjoy when things don’t go the Orioles way. Never gets old.

But great draft was nice to actually feel something Baseball again. Now lets get a deal done so we can have real Baseball again. And as many f***ing games as possible please.

SD has a massive draft if they can sign everyone....wowser.

Robert Hassell III

Justin Lange

Owen Caissie

Cole Wilcox

Levi Thomas

Jagger Hayes

If Baltimore was wondering, this is how you take an under slot guy with your first pick and use it to secure some huge talent afterwards.

Judging by Martin's Twitter account, I'm going to assume this kid is for sure getting signed.

I think this gets said every draft.

Can you post some? I don't have Twitter..

Thanks

I don't exactly know how guys make the tweet show up on here, I can send the link or I'll just say this..

I hope @austin_martin99 is the best 5th pick the @BlueJays ever drafted!! - Vernon Wells

Let’s goo!!!! I can’t wait to be teammates again @austin_martin99 🇨🇦🇨🇦 - Phil Clarke

Don’t worry @austin_martin99 contrary to how @Davis4491 looks right now, we do have razors in Canada. Your beard game will never look that way 🤣🤣🤣 - some random dude

Martin acknowledged/retweeted those, as well as a few of the tweets from the Jays account acknowledging his selection.

I'm probably reaching, and sound ridiculous lol but I'm still confident he signs.

Hopefully one of them breaks the SD curse of going 20 years without drafting an All-Star.

Experts' favorite Draft pick for all 30 teams (By Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Mike Rosenbaum)

BLUE JAYS

Nick Frasso, RHP, Loyola Marymount (4th round)

After landing Austin Martin, the second-ranked player in the class, with the No. 5 overall pick, the Blue Jays shifted their focus to pitching early on Day 2, selecting college hurlers in Rounds 2-4. Frasso, a 6-foot-5 right-hander who is still coming into his own on the mound after playing both baseball and basketball in high school, is exactly the type of pitching prospect Toronto loves to develop, standing out for his athleticism, live arm and untapped potential.

What a draft!

And interesting that, for the first time ever, the top seven picks were all college players (but this is likely a result of high school seasons getting canceled, which made it nearly impossible to properly scout teenagers).
