saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 I just can't feel good about giving 40 million to a catcher who projects to hit for a sub .300 wOBA. They better hope he outperforms his projections. Not hard to see his 2019 and 2020 seasons being BABIP fuelled rage (and also his peak). It's probably OK in the end, but count me out as a McCann truther. Not sorry! I'm pretty sure most teams don't use steamer projections to evaluate talent. They obviously don't project him to be a sub .300 wOBA guy. His exit velocity did tick up the last couple years. His hard hit percentage ticked up the last couple years, his walk rate ticked up slightly. His XWOBA the last 2 years were .327 and .329. He may have made some strides defensively and framing the last couple years. I don't really care how McCann does. As someone said, I'm glad they are spending money on a player I don't want. I hope he doesn't do that well. The Mets are now the Yankees 2.0 with crazy money to spend. I hope they waste money here and there.

There’s potential of an entire country getting behind them. No other agent is doing anything like what Luba is doing right now. Her and Bauer are a perfect match for each other, and it's good for baseball.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Who honestly has the money for Bauer? If the Mets sign Springer on top of Stroman and McCann will they really blow more on Bauer when they probanly already like their starting rotation potential? Yankees are almost certainly out of the question for multiple reasons Angels could use him desperately and MIGHT be willing to reach but they have payroll issues Most other teams are either flat broke and/or are in no way going to contend with or without Bauer So maybe we have a real chance... Ray Verified Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mets end up signing both Bauer and Springer. Cano testing positive and being off the books was the best thing that could’ve happened to them.

But I still agree with general point of being able to see them sign both. Basically Jay fan’s fap dream may be a Met reality

He won't be able to return... $14 million bonus spend this year and fwd.. The talk is he is done from baseball now..

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Steamer and ZIPs projections take all these things into account. I'm sure they do. Internally teams make their own evaluations. Why would the mets sign a player for 4 years 10 if they thought he was going to be s***. Steamer thinks he's going to be s***. The mets don't. In a couple years we'll know who's right. Steamer is projecting Nate Pearson to have a 4.86 FIP next year. We'll see if they are right on that one.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 I kind of believe in Danny Jansen, so im not sure I would rush and give Realmuto 20+ million. Might be better off signing some other guys to some short term deals addressing other areas. Wouldnt be mad at a Realmuto aigning though, obviously. I just think Jansen will put it together and he's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Yeah, there are things that can happen in the event he falls into the Jays lap, but he'd have to come down significantly in price for those things to make sense for the Jays. They just don't need him with the current roster.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 I don't think you have this right. The point of adding Carrasco to the deal, for Cleveland, would be to improve the centrepiece. If the market for Lindor is so weak that they can't land a blue-chip prospect for him, they'll pitch Lindor+Carrasco in an attempt to get the big package built around a blue chipper. Cleveland would trade Lindor for Groshans in a minute... Toronto would not do that deal. Would you rather do: Lindor for Groshans; or Lindor for Gurriel + Orelvis Martinez
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 You get a logjam They prob don't want to trade Gurriel unless they know they're getting another quality OF from somewhere #ballsintheair

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Would you rather do: Lindor for Groshans; or Lindor for Gurriel + Orelvis Martinez Straight up, neither. With an extension B Just yesterday, I thought it'd cost more money/value, today not so much.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Would you rather do: Lindor for Groshans; or Lindor for Gurriel + Orelvis Martinez I expect that Gurriel probably has more trade value than Groshans to begin with.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 He does, but they'd likely just buy him out. It's not like the money he's owed disappears if he's releaaed.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Would you rather do: Lindor for Groshans; or Lindor for Gurriel + Orelvis Martinez The more I think about the less I want Lindor. Toronto can improve the team significantly with money alone, so that's what they should try to do. If that fails because every FA spurns them then maybe trading for Lindor and Carrasco would make sense. Groshans is too hard for me to evaluate. He could be either very underrated or overrated right now. I really have no idea what a fair trade would be but if I'm Toronto I want to be selling guys like Moreno, Hiraldo, Pardinho, Kloffenstein. I think most smart teams would realize that Gurriel has extreme value on his contract.

The FO is going to have a good handle on projecting Groshans having watched him against MLB calibre talent for 3-4 months. Trust in Atkins / Shapiro.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 The Jays are one of the few teams that are willing to spend money this winter, and presumably have a lot of it to spend. Supply is exceeding demand to a ridiculous level in the free agent market. The Jays best prospects are in low A, and the 2020 minor league season was wiped out, so they'd be selling low if they moved any of their top 10 prospects. The Jays don't need a SS. All of those things combined means the Jays should be prioritizing free agency right now, not a trade for a rental SS who will need a decade long extension to keep around. As painful as it is for fans, the Jays can afford to wait for every FA except Kim and Sugano (assuming they are in on one or both), since there is a posting deadline for them. Beyond those two, there are still very good FA's available even if the Mets sign Springer and Bauer, or someone else signs Bauer. Absolutely no need to trade for Lindor. It won't even benefit them in the box office in 2021 due to the pandemic.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 I saw an article about Bauer ranking most aggressive fan bases trying to recruit him. It was about Mets being second and mentioned NYY being 5th. Who was first? Not that it means anything at all but just curious
