The Angels have signed left-hander Alex Claudio to a one-year deal worth $1.125MM, the club announced. Claudio hit the open market after he was non-tendered by the Brewers earlier this month.

He pitched mediocerly in a league leading 83 games in 2019

Source confirms: Free-agent catcher Mike Zunino in agreement with Rays on one-year, $3M contract with club option for 2022. Option valued between $4M and $7M depending upon number of games played. If declined, Zunino receives $1M buyout. On it: @TBTimes_Rays, @JonHeyman.

I'm 4+ years late, but I'm reading The Only Rule is it Has to Work, and it's fantastic. Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller take over a the Sonoma Stompers, and the book is about their year running the team.

Will this impact HOF voting this year?

This year and going forward if it sticks. Character is huge part of it now (dumb IMO but is what it is)

You just said if it sticks, and followed up with dumb iyo, you think beating your wife isn't a serious character flaw? lol

I agree, but I also don't think Vizquel is a HOF player. Vizquel's been trending towards being elected at some point, so it will be interesting to see what this does to his support.

There can be a difference between agreeing that beating your wife is a serious character flaw - and thinking that character shouldn't play a major role in HOF voting.

Sure, but it is, he can f*** off if true, imo. Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe, etc... should be in. Meh... I don't want to get into it. Also, I don't get why he's getting in in the first place.

Bonds/Clemens too- no brainer. Too many Kings in the world now

The most egregious is Schilling. He’s never even been convicted of cheating.

Read that book a few years ago...it's a fun read, enjoy!

Jesus Spanky. Can’t you at least give a guy an investigation before you burn him at the stake? But even if so, I still believe players with character flaws should go in. They already will carry the stain on their legacy for the rest of their lives. Their accomplishments on the field aren’t erased but whenever a father comes across said player at the HOF, he’ll prob mention he beat his wife.. at least when his kid is old enough to hear it lol

For the record, I think OV needs to score really high in character though as he doesn’t really deserve to go in based on what he did on the field. Even his glove was just a poor man’s second fiddle to Ozzie Smith so there was nothing generational about it

Sonoma is kinda similar to Sinaloa, so when I saw the name Stompers, at first it sounded like an enforcement arm of a cartel. Guess it makes sense though, wine and all

Ben and Sam taking over an enforcement arm of a cartel probably would have made for a much better book, if we're being honest here.

You said if it sticks, Connor, of course he should go through due process, I ain't burning s***, man. And yes he doesn't deserve to be in, a good career, but not Hall worthy.

I have always thought the Hall of Fame should be a historical place and it should have a separate wing for these delinquents. Elect them because they are great players and their stats warrant election, but do it under a separate ballot, don't give them a speech, and record the controversy on the same plaque as you record their accomplishments.

Some of these guys legitimately don't "deserve" to be in the clean wing of the Hall.

Schilling is not kept out because of his politics - he is kept out because he is objectively a nasty, intolerant loser. Mariano Rivera is one of the most conservative people imaginable but he's not a POS so he was a unanimous selection.

Not really. The HOF is essentially part of the marketing of the game of baseball. They don't want *******s in there.

From all objective reports, Schilling doesn’t hold a candle to Ty Cobb in that regard. I’m sure that’s not the only mega douchebag in the Hall either. That’s just crazy that being an ******* keeps you out of the HOF. It completely ignores precedent for no other good reason than current PC culture.

At least cheating I can understand to a certain degree, even if I don’t agree

Lots of *******s are in the Hall of Fame. I don't see why that is a good argument for letting in huge *******s going forward.

Don't talk to me about "precedent" unless I am wearing my wig.

A lawyer that doesn’t believe in precedent. Could make for a good tv pilot actually
