Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 This is a Dark Day for baseball Would he be called racist if he were pitching today?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Would he be called racist if he were pitching today? His nickname was Whitey because his hair was white.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Would he be called racist if he were pitching today? Considering he got into a fight with a bowling team over them calling Sammy Davis Jr. racial slurs this probably is not the case
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Considering he got into a fight with a bowling team over them calling Sammy Davis Jr. racial slurs this probably is not the case Didn't know that. Good for him. f***ing Bowlers.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Didn't know that. Good for him. f***ing Bowlers. Hey now be careful what you say about bowlers... It was a somewhat famous incident as it led to Billy Martin being traded

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Friendly reminder that Matt Vasgersian is a terrible commentator and bad for the sport, and no amount of screaming at somewhat meaningful plays will change that.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Didn't know that. Good for him. f***ing Bowlers. lol... I laughed pretty damn hard at this.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Friendly reminder that Matt Vasgersian is a terrible commentator and bad for the sport, and no amount of screaming at somewhat meaningful plays will change that. He has a great voice though
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 He has a great voice though I used to enjoy him, but he overdoes the excitement to the point where it's completely exhausting, and he's not interesting to listen to.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 maybe you shouldn't make so many assumptions. https://www.google.com/search?q=definition+of+attention+whore&rlz=1C1GGRV_enCA748CA748&oq=definition+of+attention+whore&aqs=chrome..69i57.4240j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 The definition of 'attention whore' is a PERSON who behaves in a provocative, outrageous, or reprehensible manner in order to attract attention. It's your choice to associate the word 'whore' with a woman - not mine. Men and woman can both be attention whores (obviously). Men and women who post pictures of their ass in a thong on the internet do so for the attention it brings. She has SEVERAL provocative pictures and thus meets the very definition of an attention whore. The only argument is whether you find them provocative or not, but I'll render a guess that exactly 0 people have ever posted pictures of their ass on the internet without hoping for and expecting some attention. This is the world we live in...you can't point out facts and use definition from Oxford Languages correctly without being attacked as being something you're not. THAT my friend, is lame as f***.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 White Sox fire Renteria. Odd timing but that’s going to be a very attractive job. Team on the rise, locked up for a long time, only going to get better.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Joe Morgan, HOF'er and two time NL MVP, Big Red Machine 2B, is gone. RIP.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 https://www.closecallsports.com/2020/10/perfect-game-for-john-tumpane-is-first.html Umpire John Tumpane called every ball and strike accurately last night. Is this like, pro-umpire propaganda? One sign of ******** is when a person or source uses a bunch of acronyms and black box speak that a layperson cannot understand. The general question here as as simple as it can possible be - were the pitches called correctly? You can figure this out with public info. I have no idea why this website's stuff needs to be done with "preliminary numbers" and comparison ratings for "ML Private" and "ZE estimates" and "UEFL f/x criteria for day-of plate scores" and all of these other references but it kind of smells like unnecessary complication to make umps look good, as if to imply that this is all much harder and more complex than it actually is (it's a f***ing binary call - in or out?). Tumpane not only beat the computer using the ZE estimate Oh yes, he beat the computer. This is the dead giveaway that this entire website and sub-culture is either created or funded by an umpire's kid or the union itself. And just to prove that perfection isn't good enough for some people, career ejectee Josh Donaldson took to twitter to complain about Tumpane, tweeting, "Top 3 worst ump in the game" and "Trust me this guy has no idea what the zone is in the rule book. He's never wrong in his words." lmao okay career ejectee made me laugh
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Also from Kurtz The trio expected to be posted of Kim Ha-seong, Na Sung-bum and Kim Jae-hwan are currently on playoff bound teams. KBO playoffs begin on November 1. The extension of the posting period should help if any of the trio are still playing in the Korean Series at the end of November.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 I've seen that site before, fantasy umpire ejections is hilarious and both sad, people will put money on anything. Iassogna has lead like the last 3 or 4 years, he's like Mike Trout in those leagues.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 No offdays in the postseason is f***ing awesome. Teams pay the price for having plugs like Kyle Wright in their rotation.

Yeah I'd really like to see MLB stick with this to the extent possible. 2 off days for travel in 5 and 7 game series would be the happy medium.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Seeing Kyle Wright get destroyed made me happy. Here is a funny tweet I saw two days ago:
Ray Verified Member Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 There’s no way this is true, right? $400M guaranteed to a player with just under a seasons worth of games?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 No offdays in the postseason is f***ing awesome. Teams pay the price for having plugs like Kyle Wright in their rotation. This. It's absurd that playoff baseball had become entirely different from regular season baseball, with teams shelving their 4/5 starters and relying on elite relievers for a much higher percentage of their innings. I hope this playoff schedule becomes the norm again.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Baseball playoffs aren’t about the LoD die hards that like the season to come down to team depth. Most fans want to see Verlander and Kershaw as much as possible
