Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 What I'm saying is that James Paxton will be a Blue Jay next year.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 What I'm saying is that James Paxton will be a Blue Jay next year. based on how he finished, if Paxton has a good year next year he's going get paid a high AAV and a lot of years for a pitcher turning 32.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Man, someone really needs to take a pressure washer to the outside of the Skydome... ...or a stick of dynamite.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Some behind the scenes footage from the press conference taken from Daniel Kim’s Youtube channel: There's a really good baseball conversation going on in the comments section of that video.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 based on how he finished, if Paxton has a good year next year he's going get paid a high AAV and a lot of years for a pitcher turning 32. Unless he has a strong 2020 with zero health blips, Paxton will probably be thought of much like Ryu was. Great pitcher but age + lack of a durability track record will limit the amount of risks teams want to take. That's market dependent though. If Paxton is the most attractive arm on the market the story is different.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 I am so excited to have Ryu on my team, man! Bring on 2020!!!

Todd Verified Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 with the signing of ryu do the jays still draft 5 overall in the draft?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 with the signing of ryu do the jays still draft 5 overall in the draft? Nope. Dodgers get that pick now.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Nope. Dodgers get that pick now. As well as their 1st rounder in 2021.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 As well as their 1st rounder in 2021. Really? f***, I did not know that
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Nope. Dodgers get that pick now. One of the reasons LAD did not resign him.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 with the signing of ryu do the jays still draft 5 overall in the draft? Unfortunately your 2020 top 120 Jays prospects will only have 119 instead.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 What are you guys talking about?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 What are you guys talking about? They are way off. The 2021 pick is top 10 protected and goes to 2022 if it is below top 10.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Don't the Dodgers also get our Top J2 signing for next year as well?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Guys, the Jays and Dodgers actually have to swap farms as a result of this signing.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Don't the Dodgers also get our Top J2 signing for next year as well? No that was the old CBA
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 They are way off. The 2021 pick is top 10 protected and goes to 2022 if it is below top 10. Wouldn't we lose our 2nd round pick and 500k bonus pool? Also, didn't Ryu get a qualifying offer last year, not this year?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Even losing the #5 pick, still a fantastic signing IMO
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 This is why we can't get new posters
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 They are way off. The 2021 pick is top 10 protected and goes to 2022 if it is below top 10. We lose the top 10 protection of the 2021 pick if he's not a top 5 signing. So if Donaldson signs for more than $20M AAV 2021 is still up in the air.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Well we will be losing something when we sign Mookie Betts to a monumental deal next year!
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 I'm dying lol Lmao
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted January 11, 2020 Posted January 11, 2020 Seems like a cool dude. Love it.
Beans Verified Member Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) You know, I fully expected the Blue Jays to kick the can down the road again this season and wait for the Yankees and Red Sox to age out/become financially bloated in the next couple years, and by then also hoping the Rays would have to to reset given that they can't afford their players past 3 years. Instead they sign Ryu! They're seeing the obvious: the Yankees will never be 'a little worse' (because of their money), that the Rays have perpetually figured out how to remain competitive, and that the Red Sox with Chaim Bloom in charge will get their money in order and be a powerhouse again. So Shatkins is focusing instead on being 'the best we can be,' without waiting for the division to tell them when. They've got a great group of young hitters and now with all the lottery tickets in AAAA SP depth, an ace in Ryu, and some horses to eat innings, this season will be much more competitive. Can't wait for Opening Day! Edited January 13, 2020 by Beans
