Is there a reason we think that one of the worst qualified pitchers in baseball, given health, was a lock to be tendered a contract by the undisputed best team in baseball

Oh wait, these are the same stunned f***ing dummies that were clamouring for us to sign him to an 80 million dollar extension as recently as April. Good Stuff!

To be fair to the dummies, I think it was 60M.

So much talent being non tendered!

I wouldn't mind Treinen, Taijuan Walker, Addison Russell (backup infielder), Danny Hultzen, Trevor Hildenberger, even Sanchez

Addison Russell is coming nowhere near this team, come on Abom.

Jays are going to tender Drury. I can feel it.

Considering the players getting non tendered, it would be sad if Drury is kept at $2.5 million, but really I think anyone expecting him to be non tendered is fooling themselves. I hope I’m wrong.

This front office most definitely lacks the testicular fortitude to go anywhere near any player that has ever been linked to any DV matter.

The Blue Jays aren't a team without talent. Vlad, Biggio, Bichette, LGJ, and the catchers are one of the highest-upside young cores in the game. It would be completely absurd for that core to push hard this year only to see the team win 82 games because Ross Atkins didn't have the balls to add talent this offseason. It would be a waste of a prime year of control of multiple good young players, and a waste of a year that could have been spent rebuilding fan interest. If the core thrives, we have a team that is playing meaningful baseball games all year. And if the core fails, the team has much bigger problems than a few short- or medium-term FA contracts signed this offseason.

In the last few years alone we've seen the Cubs and Braves contend a year before people thought their rebuilds were finished, the Brewers, Rays and A's build elite teams that nobody thought would be elite, and the Twins topple the Indians as the best team in the ALC, seemingly out of nowhere. The idea that Toronto's core isn't good enough to supplement with FA talent doesn't make any sense to me.

Best post of the year!

I hope Drury and the Jays actually go to an arbitration hearing. Might as well make this BS entertaining.

Lol imagine being his agent in that hearing. Not a lot of ammo in that hearing

At least Law is gone, but I can't wrap my head around paying Brandon Drury 2.5M given the amount of talent available on the market right now.

Dude is 27 and has put up -1.1 fWAR over the last two seasons and has been replacement level over like 1500 career PA. It's almost unheard of for players like that to get guaranteed money in today's game.

I don't get it either, but he can still be cut if needed later for what, 500k?

We're on the hook for his arbitration now. If he get's 2.5 there's no cutting him.

I think it only becomes guaranteed if he's on the team opening day. Until then, it's a non-guaranteed contract that only requires termination pay (a month or two?)

You're wrong. We had this discussion last year. His contract is guaranteed for whatever they agree to or what he get's in arbitration.

Has anyone ever got an MVP vote and been Non-tendered in the same year?
