Slot Machine Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 So as far as prospects go, Simeon Woods Richardson has some serious fap potential. But what's the word on Anthony Kay, could he be with the Jays at some point this year?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Bro Im a Blue Jays fan, drafted Woods Richardson last year in my fantasy draft where we own 100 minors each ... I made alot of research back then until now ... The fact nobody knows about the guy tells me all they look at are there own farm system and MLB team ... I would have liked Jays to get Vientos too though or gamble on Szapuschi He is a good young prospect but trading Stroman should have netted him and say Vientos and maybe a third piece
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Like Abom said a couple of pages ago, maybe most of these teams viewed Stroman as a mid-rotation guy rather than an ace or a No.2 type starter. Remember Stroman was awful last year. Regardless, the Jays still had three days so there was no rush on their part. Wait until closer to the deadline and maybe one of those teams become desperate. I still think the Jays could have done better. Teams are supposed to underplay the value of the asset they are trading for, so maybe they were all giving the Jays this impression. It is up to the GM not to cave, especially well before the deadline. We know how many teams use advanced stats now. It is impossible that many of these teams dont know how good Stroman is. I think Ill go into a more positive frame of mind now though. This is not healthy. I just really expected the splash that so many other franchises have got to have. We so rarely get to trade for top prospects, I thought this was going to be it.

keggy Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Mets are 6 games out of WC. It's f***ing possible the idiot GM is going for it. At these prices Mets can afford to go on a run, wait until the offseason and flip Stroman back for better prospects. Teams like the Yankees and A's have been doing this for years.

He hasnt done well in AAA though so hopefully the Jay's can fix him and see him blossom up here

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Sonny Gray a couple of years back was somewhat similar to Stro but worse and he got a top 100, maybe top 50 guy, and another on the fringes.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Wouldnt call it brilliant. There are lots of younger power arms in the minors. Nobody knows for sure how any of them will turn out. If they hit on this then that's awesome but they still should have got someone with the same power arm who is a bit closer and less of a risk. Or if not then at least one more player thrown in. I was using a bit of sarcasm there. I am excited about SWR though, I think long-term there is a possibility we will be happy with this deal. The sky isn't falling, although a couple days ago we expected more.
ItsMeMario Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Well then, welcome to BJMB. We sometimes get other team's fans in here after trades. Hope you post more. Thank you! And just a proof im not a Mets troll he is on my minors ... Im very high on him http://i65.tinypic.com/2rqc48k.jpg

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Coming around a little on this one. SWR has high potential. Kay is kind of meh. Would have thought we could have gotten a 3rd piece too. C grade from me.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 Sonny Gray a couple of years back was somewhat similar to Stro but worse and he got a top 100, maybe top 50 guy, and another on the fringes. Kaprelian had TJS subsequent to his 2017 prospect rankings and before the trade, and Fowler had suffered a catastrophic leg injury two days before the trade. Not exactly a clean comparable. Also Jorge Mateo was woefully overrated by the New York Hype Maccccccchine.
ItsMeMario Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Kyle Murray? Haha yeah but I drafted him way before he decided to join the NFL
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 It isn't the Yankees and that will stick in his hat until he signs there when he becomes a UFA
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Yeah you guys are reeling me in with the SWR fapping. I hope we look back a year or two from now and all the haters, like me, look foolish for doubting this. I'm not expecting much of anything from Kay, but if SWR has a Patino kind of prospect rise next year, then the discussion will definitely look different.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Looking ahead, there are now three pitchers with true potential to be long term starters that should be ready to debut next year - Pearson, Kay, Murphy. Murphy has a 3.16 FIP in AA for 17 starts, and 9.44 K/9.

His struggles at AAA can mostly be explained by small sample size noise. He'll make adjustments and regress to the mean, even if that doesn't mean he becomes a frontline starter all of a sudden.

It's 31 IP in AAA, his HR/FB went from 2.6% in AA to 14.6% in AAA. Could be just some statistical noise along with the juiced AAA ball.
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Feels like we got a Kloff + SRF return lol. Damn would I love to trade those two for a mid rotation guy with a cheap extra year
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 I guess TBF SWR is basically what we'd dream Kloff would be this time next year

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Expected overreaction. What I like - Jays got the best 18 year pitcher in the world. If he was in this years draft he'd have been top 10. What I don't like. The best player in the deal is 18. Kay is what you see. A power lefty that shows flashes of mid rotation and flashes of failed reliever. He's a lefty who's ready and has low mileage on the arm though. That has some value. He's another one of those 2 to 4 inning guys who the Jays seem to be stocking up on but have shown no thoughts of building that way
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Feels like we got a Kloff + SRF return lol. Damn would I love to trade those two for a mid rotation guy with a cheap extra year Kloff and SWR aren't in the same stratosphere as prospects.
