Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Not a great return, fam. SWR has real upside but I'm surprised a SAL arm was the best return available for Stroman. At least he has a three letter acroname to pair with SRF. Kay seems like a backend SP prospect right now. It does feel kinda gross but I try to keep in mind that our front office has an excellent track record of identifying high level pitching talent - Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco, Clevinger, Bieber, etc.
jerb Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Marcus Stroman @MStrooo6 Toronto, I love you...forever!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I understand the appeal to Woods-Richardson. He will be a top 100 prospect very soon, and has big time potential. Still disappointed though. Idk what they see in Kay. Kay is top 100 on some lists including BA edit - he was on the BA top 100 (#80), dropped off as of most recent update
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Kay is top 100 on some lists including BA He is getting rocked in AAA at 24 yrs old...
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Mets 4th and 6th ranked prospects SWR has upside but still far away. Kay was solid in AA and s*** the bed in AAA. They must be really high on these kids, or no way this is the best possible offer for Marcus Stroman.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Kay is top 100 on some lists including BA Kay was a top 100 until the draft happened. SWR will be a top 100 by next year.
PhillyBlueJay Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Lottery tickets lmao. Return is disappointing but Jesus Christ. Trending to be a top 100 prospect is still no guarantee and NOT even to grab prospects in other organization in the top 50-100. Just crazy. I'm sure we will hear some chatter from baseball people that Atkins accepted way less then what other organizations were willing to offer. Atkins needed to push teams right till noon on the 31st. That is what Pat Gillick always did and ended up with good trades. Atkins is blink first guy and should not be our GM going forward! I mean Jesus Christ, you could not say to Atlanta, Padres, Yanks, Twins, give me your best pitching prospect for Stroman in a 1-1 swap and they would not take him it in a playoff run....

Superdood Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I'm gonna withhold judgement for a year or 2 until Woods-Richardson develops a bit more, kid has some serious juice behind his fastball and should easily start jumping up the top 100 rankings imo. I never got the point of s***ing all over something when prospects are involved, let them develop and see what happens. This team wasn't gonna be close to contention for at least 2 more years anyways.
jerb Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Andy Martino @martinonyc Anthony Kay is a back end starter until his breaking ball develops. Not sure how that’s better for jays than Deivi Garcia but good for Mets Andy Martino @martinonyc Rival evaluator calls Woods-Richardson a “stud”
ColdPint Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 So how many more years before we can hold Shatkins accountable for how they’ve managed this team and assets?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Ranked New York Mets #5 prospect after the 2018 season Track Record: The 31st overall pick in 2016, Kay had Tommy John surgery after signing and missed the entirety of his first two pro seasons. He made up for lost time in 2018 by pitching at two Class A levels, striking out a batter per inning as he regained feel he lost after his layoff. Scouting Report: Kay returned to the hill in 2018 as a different pitcher than he was in college. More a fastball/changeup lefty at Connecticut, he emerged in pro ball with a vicious, top-to-bottom 80 mph curveball that he locates to both sides of the plate. His peak curveball approached 3,000 revolutions per minute, while his average spin rate ranked inside the top 10 percent in the minors. Kay tops out at 96 mph and sits 92-94 with an above-average, high-spin fastball that plays at the top of the zone in conjunction with his curve and mid-80s changeup at the bottom of the zone. His change flashes above-average potential and sinking action. Kay pitches with a bulldog demeanor and wants to strike out opponents. The Future: Kay has mid-rotation potential if he can refine his curveball into a swing-and-miss pitch and improve his overall command. He will be ready for Double-A at some point in 2019 with a possible big league ETA of 2020.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Makes me wonder what other teams were offering? Heck, I'm surprised the Yanks wouldn't part with Garcia. I don't understand why Stro doesn't have the value we thought he did.

I guess when the next regime will be doing the vlad trade We had it really good with AA but he wasnt appreciated for what he did for us. He was our Ujiri. Instead we went with a couple of guys who think they are smarter than everybody and this is what happens We betrayed the guy who would have stayed with us for these clowns

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 He is getting rocked in AAA at 24 yrs old... SSS There is often an adjustment period moving up levels. Kay is likely a back end or AAAA type
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 IMO, Kay is basically equivalent to Quantrill. Likely a mid-rotation guy. He should be a second or third piece in this kind of deal. Woods-Richardson probably has higher upside, but his distance to the majors should put him at about the same value. This is NOT a good trade. There should be at least one more solid player coming back, if not a top 100 guy. No reason to trade him now as opposed to Wednesday if this is the return.
TheOutsider Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Woods Richardson has some seriously sexy strikeout, walk and even groundball numbers. But that's in A-ball, and Kay has been a human launching pad in AAA. I guess we should be happy it's not the Yankees.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Makes me wonder what other teams were offering? Heck, I'm surprised the Yanks wouldn't part with Garcia. Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Atkins need to immiadiately tell us the the organization is now in a very good position when it comes to pitchers And it would be very hard to get better

I don't understand why Stro doesn't have the value we thought he did. History says he did. Top of the rotation type pitchers consistently go for MASSIVE hauls at the deadline. Almost every time, like clockwork. A great pitcher remains the most valued asset in the game.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I'll guess Woods-Richardson and Kay I like Kay also. Mets have a lot of good arms in their farm system, no wonder they can afford to let a few go

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Don't love the trade, don't hate it. Don't know why they could not wait longer before pulling the trigger. A non-contender offered the best package??
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Don't you think the Mets would have offered the same deal in the offseason considering they are looking at next year at this point? Why would they take this deal from them now 4 days to go still before the deadline.
