He won't be able to play SS in the majors due to his limited range.

Kieth Law update

Two things are for sure. Tatis is by far the better JR and Bo Bichette is not a short stop. While most people conceded Tatis would have more defensive value, few expected him to outhit the other (bigger) JR. It's a small sample size but it should be pretty obvious by now that Tatis is not only the better defender, but the better hitter. Guerrero has been exposed in the majors, the vaunted plate discipline was never really there, and only an illusion caused by inferior competition. In the majors Tatis will strikeout about the same as Guerrero as Guerrero can't lay off good out of zone breaking stuff. Look for them both to strikeout 150 times a year, but Tatis will hit for a higher average and more power. Put it this way. Just reverse their Dad's stats to get the JR stats.

And no, Bo Bichette still isn't a short stop.

Vladdy congratulating Stroman?

Did he edit the tweet? I don't see congratulations.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Vladdy is religious. Too much time in a developing country.

Yeah he edited it a few minutes after Ang posted it. The original was something like "Congratulations bro blah blah" but that's just a mistranslation of "felicidades" which is how you'd wish someone a happy birthday. I'm sure someone pointed it out and then he made the edit so no confusion ensued.

Your scouting report is 3 years old. His lack of range at short has already been debunked.

Keith Law is smoking the good stuff. Did someone in the Blue Jays org murder his wife and kids?

I mean, I get that Tatis has tremendous talent but Law spares no bullets when throwing shade at the Jays like every opportunity. Until I see some projection models demonstrating his claims, I’ll assume he’s pulling this out of his ass.

It's not the Keith Law you know. This is Kieth Law...his even more retarded twin.

Atkins is really trying hard in getting his "value signing of the century" Randal Grichuk going. There is no way Montoya bats Grichuk second on his own.

He is the third or fourth best projected hitter on the team so he should be hitting high in the order.

It's a joke, but sadly based on quite a bit of reality. The Bichette part isn't really exagerated at all. Kieth Law has said several times that Bichette isn't a short stop. He's also rated Tatis above Guerrero... though he's never exactly said that Tatis will be a better hitter.. just that Tatis will be almost as good a hitter and way better at everything else.

I like how someone can do an exaggerated Keith Law parody that is so ridiculous but yet so believable because Law is such a giant douche.

It is a common Birthday salutations in Spanish. Very common.. Same as when someone sneezes and you might say bless you..

The fifth spot is Grichuk's home on this team, seventh if you add Bichette and Biggio.

He also said Jays’ prospects are overrated, top heavy and doesn’t have a top 10 farm system.

This came around the midseason update after the draft and IFA signings when both BA and MLB Pipeline had the Jays a top 5 farms in baseball.

I live overseas and miss the games and only catch the highlights so I am wondering how Vlad is looking at the plate - his numbers suck but is that because he is looking completely over-matched or is he making some decent contact and hitting the ball right at people. He was red hot in the minors but seeing 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts kind of thing in the box scores. And not like he is facing particularly strong pitching.

As an aside I will be heading to my first Blue Jays game in July - last time I was in Toronto was when there was a hole in the ground ready to build Skydome. I have seen the jays many times in Seattle but first home game - probably the Cleveland series. Any suggestions on seats.

He seems to be waiting back too long on the ball. While he's hit some balls hard still, he hasn't really squared anything up. Pitchers are making some really good pitches too, he really hasn't seen any mistakes.

Simple answer? He's too fat.

He is getting almost zero pitches down the middle. Got impatient about it last night for really the first time and took some bad swings.

If prime Jose Bautista was getting pitched to like this he would have like 8 walks over Vlad's five games.

It's mostly a string of awful luck that pitchers haven't made more mistakes and given him some pitches to actually hit.

Yeah, he's been pitched very tough in every AB I've seen. I can't recall him missing a good pitch to hit.

I’d almost forgotten we’d signed the knuckleballer from the Korean League.

The project systems haven't factored in the increased use of breaking balls outside of the zone across baseball. That, combined with Grichuk's inability to take a breaking ball off the plate means he's f***ed.

Grichuk's been in the league since 2014, pitchers haven't just started to figure out the he's vulnerable on low breaking balls, he always has been and they've known that for some time. He's streaky, some weeks he'll swing at all of them and others he'll lay off a bit and crush the mistakes. His plate discipline stats are all right around his career averages this year.

Yeah but there's a trend league wide to throw more and more breaking balls. Good hitters have adjusted and stopped swinging at them.

I guess you could argue that Grichuk's always see a ton of breaking balls off the plate because everyone knows he can't layoff...and so you shouldn't expect much change. That could be true (is there somewhere you can see the pitch types against for hitters?). What's also changed though is the use of high fastballs. He seems to like those too and we all know that usage has spiked to counter the launch angle revolution.

Career FB%: 52.1%

2019 FB%: 46.7%

They've already started throwing him more. And despite that, he's still about league average offensively. He's fine.
