BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 He won't be worth the cost Seems no one wants him at his current $5M price, why would Jay's want him at his Arb4 price It's not clear at all that he's being shopped, and it's certainly not clear that nobody would want to pay him 5M. I really don't understand why you're so eager to remove a quality OF from a team that has exactly one other quality OF.

Because there is no use for Pillar in a rebuild other than as a trade piece, and the longer he is kept the less trade value he has. See: Donaldson, Josh

See: Donaldson, Josh Donaldson's big issue was his health. Pillar always has been healthy. Also Donaldson actually had trade value before he was hurt, pillar has basically no trade value even when healthy. Its not an unreasonable idea to hang onto pillar and hope hes hitting like 320/330/470 in late June and we can get something better for him. If he still sucks we lose next to nothing compared to trading him now (maybe we lose Pompey in this situation? Nbd) With Donaldson he was actually worth something in the off season. Then we waited, hoping to get lucky and he would go on an mvp type tear but instead he got hurt and we ended up getting way less than if we traded him earlier. Pretty different situations

See: Donaldson, Josh There is use for him though: he's a league-average outfielder on a reasonable salary, and isn't standing in anyone's way. His skill set also makes him a perfect 4th OF, and he seems to like Toronto, so he could conceivably have a role on the team for the next few years even if he's more a 1-2 WAR guy. Not every capable MLB talent needs to be jettisoned for the best lotto ticket you can find. The team would likely be looking to sign a Kevin Pillar in FA this offseason. Why not just keep the one they have? Especially given he likes it here and has a long history with the org?

Sometimes in life when one steps back, It is when We take our Greatest Leap Forward Thank him for his time and Move on ... The circle of life And his time and cycle with this team sadly as come to a End ! Plus the Epic Melt Downs and Comic Relief to come, when Alford takes his place in CF !!! Then watching Todd’s Head expode ... Blew Him Up Real Good !!! Epic Fun right there and worth it !!! Lol
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Tepera and Axford are both experiencing elbow pain and are being examined. Not the worst thing that could happen to us if they had to spend some time on the IL.. At least Axford.. Tepera will hurt a little more.. Allows us more roster management flexibility..

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 What makes you think your opinion is the right one My comment has nothing to do with my opinion - it has to do with the fact that you're thick headed and unable to see/comprehend another view or perspective and thus it's pointless to debate with you.

I don't even find that overly insulting. I'd have no problem saying that to your face. Many people have articulately valid reasons to justify why the Jays have, or should keep Pillar. According you to - you see and comprehend those points of view; however, instead of acknowledging there may be some merit to them and then countering with further information as to why you think your point of view is more correct (which would create a debate), you seemingly just continue to spew the same s*** down our throats. You've literally been flooding threads with your idea to "trade Pillar" for 3+ weeks now. You've proven over and over again that you're either unable or unwilling to engage in a reasonable debate on this matter so I called out those who continue to try. Give it a rest man.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So, I have said in the past and I was critical of Gibbons for not having the team ready to start/fully prepared for opening day. This year, Bichette, Vlad (even if he was not hurt) Alford, and others were already assigned to minor league camp with 10 plus game left in ST. All these players will be starting in AAA. Last year, Bo, Vlad and others were still playing in the last game of spring in Montreal. They were going to AA for their first time. Why do you think this year sent down so early even at a higher level, then last year when at a much lower level.. I heard Montoyo wants the regulars to get 7 plus innings starting Tuesday if not rained out. This seems like a more advance time-table then with Gibbons. Does Blue Jays management feel there is validity to the team not being fully ready to play day 1 in the past, or just coincidence, difference in managerial philosophies..?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 So, earlier on this radio broadcast, the Vancouver Canadians announcer guy was talking about meeting Vladdy for the first time... He mentioned his weight at 270. That's the first I've hear of a number that high, that can't be accurate, can it?

You seemed to conveniently omit his argument. Unless you really do believe that every single player should be shipped for the 1% lottery ticket at the first sign of decline.

I doubt Vladdy walked on a scale in front of the Vancouver Canadians announcer
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Everyone thought I was crazy for even asking if Luciano was going to make the team but at this point it has to be a big question mark. Sending him back and freeing up a 40 man spot has to be pretty tempting for the FO right now.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Yeah seems pointless to hold on to him if he’s not going to be able to get anyone out. Nice idea but execution was always going to be a big question mark. Had to hope he could be at least bad instead of god awful but the latter is probably more likely:

If axford and tepera are on the IL to open the season, I could see him making the squad even with his atrocious spring.

Sending him back and freeing up a 40 man spot has to be pretty tempting for the FO right now. I don’t remember it that way, someone started a Elvis stats prediction thread and a lot of the comments were along the lines of predicting he wouldn’t make it out of spring training. Elvis making the team and sticking all season as a teenage pitcher who has never appeared above rookie ball would be unprecedented.

Possibly, but if he’s going to get hit all over the park every time he plays, is only using him sparingly and in blow outs really going to help his development?

Had to hope he could be at least bad instead of god awful but the latter is probably more likely: He has been used regularly in ST, the Jays have given him every opportunity, but really at this point all he has to offer is a 95 mph fastball that he is having trouble locating, and hitters are catching up to. This was a good idea and I was in favour of it at 1st, but I cant see him on a major league roster getting hammered every time out. It would be very demoralizing for the rest of the team. He was flat out terrible today.
