Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 It's Bob McCown. He's not related to Dustin McGowan.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Touche.. However, I will say that my argument has been entertainment value vs. the old dudes.. I have not been making the argument that the TEAM would necessarily be better with kids vs. vets. I was going at the subject from the aspect that baseball is entertainment, it is an entertainment business. The gulf between our veterans and prospects is not like a 90 win team vs a 65 win team.. We are probably going to where we are regardless if Tellez is DHng or Morales.. Therefore, I for one, and sounds like crusty old Bob, would rather watch the kids win 65 games vs the veterans.. * To add: I think we will be a much better team than 65 wins depending on injuries.. I think we could best case be an 83 win team, if we employ the right mix throughout the year and have some luck.. We're projected as a 75 Win team right now, fyi. Americans listen to McCown?

Man that blows, 11th overall pick and his career was completely derailed by injuries. Not unlike Pompey, who seemed so promising but multiple concussions is just about the worst thing that can happen as an athlete.

I think we could best case be an 83 win team, if we employ the right mix throughout the year and have some luck.. I feel like we've been through this. I too would love to watch Thornton, Paulino, Pannone, Alford, Biggio, Tellez, etc. However, the reality is that there are going to be injuries. If you dump or cut all the vets and roll with the youth, when injuries strike, you won't be watching semi exciting young players - you'll be watching fringe prospects or minor league vets get completely over matched in the majors. That isn't fun or good for anyone's development. Did you enjoy watching Scott Kingery play last year? The guy TORE up the upper minors in 2017 (26 Hrs, 100+ runs, 29 sbs) and it was PAINFUL to watch him struggle last year.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I don't think anyone posted this, Paulino was optioned to minor league camp. I guess they'll keep trying him out as a starter in AAA then, or his altercation with Giles is indicative that he kind of has an awful attitude. Hopefully it's the former.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 O's getting 1 hit by Toronto... err not anymore, lol.

Surprised about this given the state of the bullpen. Multiple optionable inferior arms are going to make the team. As you say, maybe they want him to start.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Shatkins puts practically no priority in the pen as they try to find cheap vets coming off down years to sign every year (good strategy) so I doubt they would demote Paulino to pitch out of the pen. Unless the Giles thing made him fall out of favor....

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Sorry, no he didn't. It was a replayed call.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 But can he even carry three oranges? Probably not, but he might be able to squeeze all the juice out from throwing a single curveball.
