Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Guys...Yennsy Diaz went another 5 innings last night without giving up a hit. 4 hits allowed in 22 2/3 inning this year.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Bo with a couple of triples last night. Nice to see him add some extra base hits. Gift with another 0-4 with 3K's. He now has 1 hit in 32 PA's this year with 19 K's. Can he pitch? He should probably try something else.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Biggio is slowly making me a believer. Keep drafting or signing big leaguers' sons.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 7k, 1BB, 3 hits in 5 innings. That's a nice looking line by Perdomo.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Is there any info on when Nate Pearson returns from his back strain? Last I saw it was gonna be another week or 2...no idea though
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Is there any info on when Nate Pearson returns from his back strain? Pearson has been dealing with an oblique strain and may see game action in early May, John Lott of The Athletic Toronto reports. Analysis:Pearson was reportedly dealing with a minor back issue, but Lott reports the young pitcher started the season with the oblique strain. The 21-year-old has been throwing bullpen sessions and could be nearing his season debut for High-A Dunedin.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Guys...Yennsy Diaz went another 5 innings last night without giving up a hit. 4 hits allowed in 22 2/3 inning this year. The Lansing rotation is intriguing. Yennsy Diaz is getting results and he apparently has a plus FB and SL. Maximo Castillo is the youngest P on the roster (19 - over 2 years younger than Yennsy). He's listed at 250 lbs! Apparently he has a 90-92 FB, a decent CH, and a potential plus CB. Those are the real prospects but even the rest of them (Sellers, Logue, Larkins, Buffo, Spraker) are worth watching for now.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Lansing is actually pretty intriguing on the offensive side of the ball as well. Potential real prospects like Samad Taylor, Kevin Vicuna, Chavez Young, and Kevin Smith will make for an interesting follow this season. Throw in a couple of longshots like Noda and Clemens, and it's clear that Lansing is not devoid of talent.

Here's the Yennsy write up from fangraphs. At a slight 6-foot-1, Diaz lacks size. Also his changeup and command are below average. Because of that, it’s likely a relief fit. That said, he has a 92-95 mph fastball that he can run up to 97 and knows how to use. He also has a curveball that flashes plus, giving him plenty of stuff to fit in the late innings. Diaz leans on the fastball heavily but has the plane to make it work up in the zone, drawing swings and misses on the pitch. He uses his changeup more than his curve, in an effort to develop the pitch and remain a starter, but his numbers could take a step forward if he moves to relief and largely drops the changeup.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Average MLB RHP in 2014 was about 6'3", 215. Assuming it would be a bit higher now. 6'1" isn't puny, probably 20th percentile or something close to that, but Yennsy's weight (160) would be in a very low percentile.

I"m 6' 205 lbs. If I was 160 lbs, I feel like I'd look like a marathon runner.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I'm 6'4" and apparently the range of 'normal' weights by BMI is 156 - 205. I can not imagine my body at 156 lbs. Looks like 160 is right in the range for someone at 6'1". Clearly its not for high level athletes in any situation... but f*** bmi lol

I'd probably look sickly if I got under 190.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I can understand height for SPs, but not sure weight matters that much. Is there a correlation between muscle mass and durability / stamina for a pitcher?
Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Is there a correlation between muscle mass and durability / stamina for a pitcher? I suspect genetics has a lot to do with along with just overall proper training. Physically the mound to plate should be in theory not as stressful for a bigger and muscular player. A smaller pitcher may use more guile than power. I suspect it's the power pitchers that are likely to breakdown. But then there are just freaks of nature like Pedro. Tom Seaver: 6'-0 1/2" Nolan Ryan: 6'-2" Greg Maddox: 6'-0" Tom Glaven: 5'-11"
