THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 How the F do they get Cole without giving up Tucker, Whitley, Marte or Fisher? I don't know, but given this return, I'd be going after Cutch now, if I'm the Jays. Might get him for a package centered around Guriel or Warmoth.

Ray Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I wonder if the Jays try to trade for one of Houston’s excess starters. Buy low on McHugh. We should 100% be going after McHugh. He's the odd man out and he'd be the perfect 5th starter.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 What's the Jays equivalent on the Houston prospects? Biagini, Gurriel, Leone and JD Davis?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Pirates win the Cole deal as early as this year. Guaranteed

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Interesting story about former Million dollar Arm pitcher from India, Rinku Singh. He has been signed to a developmental deal with WWE and is now hoping to have a pro wrestling career
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 There's apparently some talk that Darvish's asking price may have dropped considerably, and could be now looking in the 5/90 range (seems doubtful, but who knows). If true, I'd hope we're in the mix.

Ray Verified Member Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 + McHugh! Hopefully we trade for him. He’d look mighty fine in a Jays uni. Trade for him and sign Lorenzo Cain and I could actually see us competing for a Wild card spot.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Ozuna on the trade talks: Ozuna discussed his reaction to the deal this weekend, telling Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com and other reporters: “The first thing I heard [was] they were going to trade me to the Oakland A’s. I said, ’God, please, leave me over here.’ Then I heard they traded me to the Cardinals, and I said, ’OK, thanks.'” https://www.mlb.com/news/cardinals-fans-greet-outfielder-marcell-ozuna/c-264702230

AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Solid get for the Nationals, Kendrick 2/7 Lower than projected, might be signs that some guys are starting to crumble. The top end free Agents they can hold out, but the medium and lower tier will start to get a little worried.

Would have loved for the Jays to grab him at that price to play LF and provide more IF depth. Maybe Nunez is still a possibility. I guess with Solarte and Diaz on board we may not need a guy like him as much though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I wonder if Kendrick's deal is like 1/6.5 with a 0.5 buyout or something. 2/7 is a ridiculous steal.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 The Nats are putting together a pretty solid and very cost effective bench, especially if Adams can repeat last year's numbers.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I would have much rather have signed Kendrick to something like that than gave up a decent prospect for Solarte. Kendrick is really nice.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Remember, the Nats are in their last season of their contention window--there's a good chance Harper and Murphy leave for other markets after 2018, and the team's payroll is HEAVILY backloaded.

I would call it more oddly loaded. Both Scherzer and Strasburg will make their max salaries next year (a Combined $75M) but then decrease starting in 2020. Adam Eaton is also set up as only $1.5M in 2020 after $8.4M in 2019.

The more and more I think about it. I think Washington is going to do everything possible to keep Bryce Harper and meet his ridiculous demands. I actually would not be surprised to see Harper stay in Washington. If he gets the money he wants he has no reason to leave. Washington is positioned well to dominate the NL East for at least another few seasons.

Yeah They locked up Strasburg The Yankees are no longer in play for Harper (good God I hope not anyway imagine an OF of Stanton Harper Judge. Who cares if none of them play a qualify CF) I can see him re-signing there next off season after resting free agency

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 So Gerrit Cole got a completely garbage return headlined by Joe Musgrove lol. Kinda makes you wonder how cheaply we can get Cutch... like Dalton Pompey or Rowdy Tellez? lol
