The more and more I think about it. I think Washington is going to do everything possible to keep Bryce Harper and meet his ridiculous demands. I actually would not be surprised to see Harper stay in Washington. If he gets the money he wants he has no reason to leave. Washington is positioned well to dominate the NL East for at least another few seasons.

I think they do whatever the can to keep him but they are set up for a 2019 mid season or 2020 sell off as well. 2 years $70M for Scherzer with no options isn't insane to move if he keeps pitching well, and Strasburg would be 32 and have only 3 years $55M left making him a very valuable trade chip. A healthy Adam Eaton could be a huge trade chip as a 32 year old with 1 year $1.5M and two $10M options.

I think they will start to concentrate on extending Rendon and Trea Turner if Harper doesn't sign. If not Rendon would be a mid 2019 trade chip as well.

Mike Rizzo doesn't do a lot well, but payroll management has been better than you figure.

McCutchen to the Giants. Return hasn't been reported yet.

Stars are lining up for us to sign Lorenzo Cain. Who's in the running now for him? Gotta be between us and the Rangers, and the Rangers need pitching more than they need an OF. I'm gonna make a bold predict and say we end up signing Cain for $64M over 4 years.

So Gerrit Cole got a completely garbage return headlined by Joe Musgrove lol. Kinda makes you wonder how cheaply we can get Cutch... like Dalton Pompey or Rowdy Tellez? lol

You jinxed us

Lol

Add Darvish and we got a shot!

The Giants have one of the worst farms in baseball, can't wait to see how hilariously s***** this return is. I bet it's like Steven Duggar straight up.

Chris Shaw will be the centerpiece probably. Maybe like him and Chris Stratton.

Watch them get Heliot somehow.

None of Shaw, Beede or Ramos involved apparently. So they didn't even manage to get one of their top 3 young pieces if true.

The exact return heading back to Pittsburgh remains unknown, though none of Chris Shaw, Tyler Beede or Heliot Ramos are in the trade (all Twitter links via MLB.com’s Jon Morosi, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, and Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post). That trio represents three of the Giants’ top regarded prospects.

Most likely Arroyo and 2 lottery tickets

Arroyo went to Tampa in the Longo deal. I'm going to guess Reynolds, Gregorio and a lottery ticket. Slater/Duggar also seem to be likely inclusions.

Wow. This is just going to be a pile of trash to Pittsburgh.

Yeah the Giants don't have much of a farm to begin with and it sounds like they still held onto their best pieces here.

I know our FO doesn't want to be giving up assets for guys without control, but Cutch for almost nothing would have looked real nice in our outfield next year. the QO would probably have been worth more than what they gave up.

The funny thing is that the Pirates were projected almost equal to the Jays (and higher than the Giants prior to the trade). I think the Cole trade actually move their projection up (Glasnow's extra 30 innings and Musgrove's 157 are projecting higher than Cole)

Usually former MVP's have a higher trade or perceived value than their real value. Cutch projecting a $10M surplus this year and most are expecting the return to be low.

Apparently it’s Crick plus one additional ‘mid range’ prospect. Sounds less valuable than, like, Leone and Pompey

Apparently the Pirates are connoisseurs of crap. Ours isn't ripe enough.

I knew we should have kept Woodman. His K rate might have enticed the Pirates to do the deal 1 for 1.

*sighs* I really hope Mark Cuban buys the Bucs, they're killing me.

I don't think Reynolds is a bad piece for what could be only a year of Cutch (who did just rebound from a crap season). Reynolds was one of the top college bats in last years class and looks like a pretty well rounded hitter so far. Probably starts in AA for the Bucs and might only be a year away. Likely a top 100 prospect after spring graduations, or at least by mid season if he continues to hit. If Crick turns out to be a good reliever that's a nice bonus.

I just don't think anyone would be lining up to hand over high end pieces for Cutch right now, especially with the FA market still sitting at a standstill. I get that it seems light for a big name OF though.
