Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 We get Quintana tonight What's up with him this year?!?! Walks, FIP, BA against, ERA all way up His plate discipline numbers are around career averages. His flyball rate is up but that's also lead to him inducing more infield flies. No significant changes in velocity. It's probably just variance.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Winnable stretch coming up all against teams under .500 CWS x3 games Rangers x4 games Royals x3 games Then Orioles HAVE to take advantage of this

Hoping for at least .600
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Is Pearce back for tonight? *supposed to be* but... TSN: Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Steve Pearce moved up to Triple-A on Tuesday in his rehab from a calf injury, but his woes at the plate continued. Pearce, who got the start in left field, went 1-for-4 at the plate on Tuesday with a single and two strikeouts as the Buffalo Bisons lost 9-7. He was replaced by pinch hitter Jake Elmore in the eighth inning. Pearce went hitless in 15 at-bats with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats with one walk and three strikeouts before being moved up to Buffalo. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday Pearce is expected to join the team for their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.

puphood Verified Member Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 It sounds like his previously injured meniscus was scoped once again. it must have frayed and got caught in his joint. If that is the case I don't know where you go from here. Meniscus doesn't grow back. They can try stuff like Synvisc and other treatments, but I don't know. The problem as a fan you have no real idea to the extent of the tear to his meniscus and you rely on dumb ass reporters and TV commentators who have no clue as to his real physical deficit. The club and agents are not going to tell the real story for various personnel interests. If the tear is bad enough it could be career ending........hope not.

He's tired of being on all of BTS' fantasy teams and is trying to get traded imo

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Location.... making pitches in better locations to get weaker contact? It's possible though unlikely that he's been making better pitches...the most likely explanation is just luck balancing itself out. Despite a higher (and unsustainable) BABIP than last season, his LOB% is a lot higher, around where it should be, homerun rate is down (though still a tad elevated), and he still has practically the same batted ball and plate discipline profile. Just a good pitcher not getting unlucky anymore (it could be argued that he's getting a bit lucky this year, but not exceedingly so).

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 Anyone wanna take a stab at what it would take to get Brandon Phillips from the Braves? He's a shell of his former self, but he's still a decent defender and would provide alot more with the stick than either Goins or Barney. He's also owed peanuts as Cincinnati is eating the bulk of his contract.

But Phillips does appeal to a certain group of fans and Atlanta specifically acquired him to help garner some fan excitement this year. I would guess some C+ prospect outside the org top 25.

I don't think theyre in a rush to play Albies at the major league level though. I think he still has 1 year left after this year before he has to be added to the 40 man roster, and he has been hurt a bit in the past 2 seasons. Still just 20 years old even though he's in AAA. And Johnson won't even be ready until after the all star break thanks to his wrist. I highly doubt Phillips is going anywhere unless a team pays way too much for him and they just can't refuse.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) Dammit this has been a frustrating season So much talent on the opening day roster but can't get it going Injuries. Underperformers. Bad luck. Though I'm sure Cubs, Cardinals, Mets and even Red Sox fan feel similarly. Clevelend too though they're finally turning it around. It's not just us. Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Are we going to keep the 3 man bench for the foreseeable future? With one of Pearce and Smith being available every day as a pinch hitter for Goins/Barney it'd be nice to have another guy down there to lengthen the bench.

Until the starting pitching can be relied upon for 6 innings more often than not, we probably get a 3 man bench

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Whatever happened to Gavin Floyd? He could never get fully fit and ended up being released before the season. Shame I always liked him. Haven't seen him being picked up by anyone else, he may have decided to call it a day.

As long as the Braves don't want anything more than some intriguing low level prospects, this is a perfect trade for a team in our position. We're hemorrhaging value with Goins out there.

We're hemorrhaging value with Goins out there. I think I'd prefer to give up a bit more for Howie Kendrick. Whoever we acquire to fill 2B stands a good chance of being bumped to the bench if Travis returns later in the year, but in that event Kendrick becomes an option for LF as well.

Effit Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 I had a dream last night that Pearce hurt his calf running to first, was so relieved when I woke up and realized it wasn't true. Pretty bad that we've had so many injuries that it's now invading my dreams.
