Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Ty Kelly though... Well yeah I think he should be called up. I like that he can play the OF as well. No reason to put Barney out there which we've already seen.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Ty Kelly though... Yeah, Barney can cover 2b and ss. Just call up Kelly to be a super utility player. Goins is trash.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Dammit I was so excited to go to the Dome for tonight's game and now I see Goins of all people is starting 3rd? Fuuuuuck
mphenhef Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I can't say I am surprised Donaldson is not playing. I was not expecting him too. The jays have frequently put on the rose coloured glasses when talking injuries in the past. A couple more games missed and a DL stint is how this typically ends.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Is there any update on Donaldson other than the lineup? Is he available to pinch hit?
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Anyone else watch the Aaron Sanchez "Limitless" thing on Sportsnet? I like Sanchez and the story is decent, but the whole music/billboard/production thing is cringeworthy.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Is there any update on Donaldson other than the lineup? Is he available to pinch hit? Josh Donaldson (calf) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Brewers. Donaldson exited Sunday's game with right calf tightness, but he was still hoping to play in Tuesday's home opener. He doesn't feel well enough to start, but he's available off the bench. Consider him day-to-day. Ryan Goins will fill in at third base. Hazel Mae on Twitter

You mean like last year when JD had almost an identical injury v. the same team (both flaring up while rounding the bases after a HR) and went onto play in the home opener and nearly every game thereafter? Those rose coloured glasses?

nightsky19 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 He is not meant to lead off. He should bat at 6th or lower. If he leads off he pressures himself to get on base and it backfires very badly.

I don't think we can really evaluate the inside of his head to figure out if he puts more pressure on himself when hitting in a certain spot in the lineup. But regardless I'm not sure we really have a many options for leadoff and that's why Gibbons went with him.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 He's only had 246 innings at third base, but looks good there and has elite advanced metrics in that small sample. I stand by my statement. Well, you're wrong. He's unquestionably terrible. Please don't debate things if you don't know what you're talking about.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 One small change that this team could do is bring up Kelly and dump Goins. Tell Morales he's going to play the field some. Then use the DH spot as a roving spot for all the old guys to get rest. Kelly can come in handy in this spot as he can mix and match the rest of the game with Barney, Zeke, Smoak, etc. If we are going to have a 0 WAR player on the field, instead of it being Smoak why not use Kelly and others to at least give an old guy some rest.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Taz spits on coaches who tell him to hit down on the ball... Jokes aside, I was videotaping my 6 year old's swing the other day and was remarkably impressed with how good it looked in slow motion. I was going to post it here to see what the experts think (so I could help him if they see a flaw).

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Here's some help- let your 6 year old be a 6 year old. Emphasize hard work and hustle. Let him play multiple sports. No need to worry about results at that age.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Jays shaking up the lineup--Morales at 1B, Donaldson hitting 3rd and DHing, Smoak benched (hopefully for a while): Cool. I was getting worried that the team was unwilling to play Morales in the field. You want to cut into Smoak's starts not his when offering the older players a DH breather. The Donaldson/Bautista flip flop seems kind of pointless but maybe they want to subtly encourage Bautista to follow Greg Zaun's advice and be less ambitious at the plate.

Morales being able to play a passable 1B would be very nice. With the above lineup, I'd probably also move Russ down below Pearce.
