He was like a late round draft pick for me in the DDL, maybe even in the first June draft we had if I recall. Remember drafting him when he was with the Tigers. It's fun watching someone develop & mature after taking a flier on them in one of the late rounds of a draft. Drafted Daniel Hudson back in 2009 in another league like with a 5th round pick and it was fun watching him over his first two years. Ray definitely doesn't get that much love in the baseball world in comparison to other arms.

Can't exactly remember where I got him in the FC... I think he was a throw in in a trade

Can you not counter sue someone if its proven they falsely accused you of something? I completely agree there needs to be serious consequences for those spreading false claims of this kind.

Legally you could if you a) prove willful intent of lying, and B) prove financial losses as a result and/or C) suffer mental anguish, embarrasement or humiliation. As an athlete, the only real financial losses could be loss of endorsement or contract dollars if either was terminated as a result of the accusations, or that he couldnt find a new contract because of it after his current one expires. But without provable financial losses, then a civil suit is pretty much useless. The mental anguish, embarrasement or humiliation is also hard to win on since most states have defamation laws that say being accused of a major crime will come with damage to your reputation regardless of whether they are true or not.... so harm to your reputation is presumed.

Since she published the accusations on instagram though, she has entered libel territory rather than just slander. States do handle those differently from one another depending in the situation

Chris Carter would've had his second HR of the night if it wasn't for the fan in the first row with feet for hands knocking the ball into an elevated Mookie Betts' glove.

Four years ago I went back to school to get my degree, shortly after, I moved across the country for love. Three years ago I was engaged. Two years ago I was planning a wedding. And one year ago I left the person I thought I was going to marry. I had beautiful moments with a man and I fell in love with a sense of humor and authentic soul that I wanted to spend my life with. I also was physically and emotionally abused by this beautiful man. He gave me a lifestyle most people only dreamed of, but it came at a price. I am forever thankful for the joy, love and laughter he shared with me. I am also forever grateful for the darkness I experienced. Because of that, today is more full of light than I would have ever expected. When I left I had $300 to my name, I had no access to money, I had no access to cars and was only given the courtesy to remove my items from our home. When I left, he and his family made sure I had nothing. But, that is far from true. I had my life, I had my family, I had my friends and I had the fight and heart that has been in me since I was a little girl. With the help of a stranger I met in an airport I was given the strength to get on my feet and fight to rebuild my life. I sold what "materialistic" items I was able to take with me in order to fly to San Diego and live until I could find a job. I found a job, I found a place to live and I found myself. As I sit here, shaking, scared to share a small glimpse of the last year of my life I can't help but let tears fall down my cheeks. I just finished my last day of my school. I am officially a college graduate, living in my dream city, working for a great company, teaching yoga and more importantly I am free of anxiety and surrounded by the love, support, grace and kindness of my friends and family and strangers and the world.

Thank you to everybody who listened to me vent. Thank you to those who held me as I cried for hours. Thank you for those that didn't judge my nightmares. Thank you to those who supported my dreams. Thank you to those who encouraged me when I could finally laugh again. Thank you to those who gave advice. Thank you to those who didn't speak and were just there."

I think it's absurd that MLB would conduct anything more than a preliminary inquiry based on a passing line in some attention-seeking instagram post.

The abuse is described in such loose terms that's it not clear at all what she is even talking about. There's nothing substantive there even if you assume sincerity. This is like your friend who vague posts on Facebook about their "journey" though in this case with a bit of equally vague defamation for good measure.

she did go into detail in a blog post

ON OCTOBER 20TH, 2015 DEREK AND I WERE AT OUR HOME IN WICHITA, KS. WE HAD BEEN SITTING OUT ON OUR PATIO AND DEREK HAD BEEN DRINKING. AS IT GOT LATE I WENT TO GO TO BED AND DEREK WENT DOWNSTAIRS, AS HE WAS STILL DRINKING. I REMEMBER WAKING UP TO HIM KNEELING AT THE BED TELLING ME HOW PRETTY I WAS AND SINGING 'SLOW JAMS' TO ME, BUT I COULDN'T KEEP MY EYES OPEN. I WOKE UP A LITTLE WHILE LATER. I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG IT HAD BEEN. I FELT THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT AND I WENT DOWNSTAIRS TO FIND DEREK ON THE PHONE. HE SEEMED STARTLED AND STARTED TALKING 'SPORTS' TO THIS PERSON ON THE PHONE. I TOOK THE PHONE AND HEARD A FEMALE'S VOICE STATING, 'ARE YOU GOING TO TALK TO ME'. I KNEW WHO IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD SEEN TEXTS AND CAUGHT HER CALLING DEREK BEFORE. I TOOK HIS PHONE AND WALKED UP OUR STAIRS TO TRY AND GET THIS GIRL TO SPEAK TO ME. I APPROACHED OUR KITCHEN ISLAND WITH THE PHONE IN MY HAND AND DEREK APPROACHED ME FROM BEHIND AND PUT ME IN A CHOKE HOLD. AT THIS TIME, I THOUGHT HE WANTED THE PHONE. I THREW THE PHONE ONTO THE KITCHEN ISLAND AND TRIED TO GET AWAY. DEREK THEN GRABBED ME BY THE BACK OF MY HAIR TO PULL ME BACK TO HIM. HE EVENTUALLY LET GO AND AS I TURNED AROUND HE GRABBED ME BY MY UPPER ARMS SO I COULDN'T LEAVE AS HE TRIED TO DRUNKENLY EXPLAIN THAT HE WASN'T TALKING TO ANOTHER FEMALE.

AFTER THIS I TRIED TO GO TO OUR BEDROOM TO GET MY PHONE TO CALL MY MOM SO SHE COULD COME HELP ME. HE STOOD IN FRONT OF ME CORNERING ME SO I COULD NOT GET TO MY PHONE. HE KEPT TRYING TO TALK TO ME AND DENY WHAT HE WAS DOING. I EVENTUALLY COULD GRAB MY PHONE AND GET INTO OUR GUEST ROOM AND LOCK THE DOOR. I GRABBED MY SUITCASE AND CALLED MY MOM SO SHE COULD COME GET ME.

MY MOM AND HER HUSBAND SHOWED UP AND TOOK ME BACK TO THEIR HOME. DEREK CALLED MY MOM AND WAS TALKING TO HER ON THE PHONE. HE CALLED HER AGAIN ONCE WE REACHED MY MOM'S HOUSE. I DON'T KNOW DETAILS OF WHAT THEY TALKED ABOUT. I DO KNOW THAT HE WAS SO UPSET BY THE SITUATION THAT HIS PARENTS CAME OVER TO THE HOUSE TO BE WITH HIM AND TALK TO HIM.

A WEEK LATER DEREK'S BEST FRIEND WAS GETTING MARRIED AND DEREK WAS IN THE WEDDING. I WENT TO THE WEDDING, I ROAD WITH HIS PARENTS. ON THE WAY, THERE, I ASKED IF THEY HAD ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN US. HIS DAD MADE COMMENTS SUCH AS, 'I DID NOT RAISE MY SON THAT WAY.' HIS MOM MADE THE COMMENT OF, 'THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING DEEPER GOING ON.

O.K. Well that would actually be pretty f***in' serious if true.

I doubt it. Feels like a blow up where both parties make mistakes, but no actual damage is done and they're better off walking away from each other.

Didn't even know this, but apparently Addison Russell had 2 kids with 2 different girls within the span of 2 months. Really taking his Pokemon gimmick seriously. Apparently he's gotta catch em' all.

"We had a development in Ontario," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred explained to a group of reporters at Coors Field on Wednesday." We were hoping that case was going to be dismissed, and it was not. I think that it points out the ongoing practical problems posed by this particular logo.">>>

Kenta Maeda’s early struggles have cost him his rotation spot, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters (including J.P. Hoornstra of the Orange County Register) that Maeda will be moved to the bullpen when Alex Wood returns from the disabled list. “This is not temporary for Kenta,” Roberts said. “We need him to get back on track, get some momentum. I don’t know what day he’s going to pitch but he’s open to it, and it’s a credit to him as a teammate.” Maeda has a 5.16 ERA over 52 1/3 IP, thanks in large part to problems keeping the ball in the park; Maeda has already surrendered nine homers this season.

Interesting. Dodgers have good SP depth as it is, and its well known that manipulating the DL to bolster their pitching depth. I don't the Dodgers would trade him. Had a good season last year and on a good contract, but the goldmine of MLB starters the Dodgers have makes it an interesting conversation.

Eduardo Nunez could be a good trade target for us. I believe he's a FA at the end of the year so he won't cost much and could cover LF and 2B for us on top of playing 3B, SS and RF.

He only has a total of 50 games played in the OF (LF/RF). I never watched his ability out there but it can't be as s***** as Zeke. Plus like you said, the ability to play just about anywhere in the IF.

Now the league has to investigate Addison Russell because his wife's friend posted that he physically and mentally abused his wife.

I love Manfred. Most commissioners would just brush this under the rug as a Human Rights Tribunal in another country where the team doesn't even play (and I've met Douglas Cardinal several times and I think he's a self serving ass and I'd throw out anything the man says so I don't agree with the methodology used for issuing the complaint). But Manfred actually says "this is an ongoing problem...maybe that f***ing cartoon logo is an issue.

It's why I wanted Ian Desmond in the offseason until I saw his price tag and backed away. But I would love to get a multi-position guy because two weeks in to the season injuries happen and your whole starting lineup is usually in disarray. Having a guy like that can help you plug holes effectively. I hope Lourdes Gurriel can become that guy for us but I wouldn't mind a trade for Nunez or signing him in the offseason. So tired of Ryan Goins and Zeke logging significant PT.

Howie Kendrick is another possibility for a trade target. Can play the outfield as well as second base and also in the last year of his contract. I'd prefer a lefty if we do acquire an OF though.

I think she said he hit her in front of their kids. Even if its true a bad thing can happen where it basically opens up the airways for random girls to say s*** on social media and can blackmail athletes.

Not sure why players get married so early on. Russel is friggen only 23 years old.

Theres probably over 100 groupies at every Cubs hotel just hoping they can even get close to one of the players. Hard to resist that temptation.

They really should use this as motivation to change back to the Spiders. They currently have the ugliest uniforms in baseball and being named "Indians" is pretty lame. Spiders are way cooler than Indians.

So basically the ex-wives MLB associations is full-on attack right now. But for real it's so stupid. If the guy is abusive and does ridiculous s*** to ya just quit him and don't stay with him for the money.

I think we've all been in situations where things get a bit heated and you grab her a little too firmly. Honestly, does it need to blow up like this and the players in question treated like dogshit for the rest of their careers? Sure, Reyes is one thing but I'm going to assume that there's a bit of embellishment going on at best.

I've straight up been swung on while breaking up with someone, and had to do the bear-hug restraint until she calmed down. We're friendly now, and the thought never crossed my mind that anyone should be reported and dragged through the mud. I'm in no way excusing actual violence or abuse, but every adult has been in situations that would make them look terrible if detailed in a one-sided account on social media.

So you put her in a choke-hold after emotionally abusing her, is what I'm reading?
