Brett Lawrie is a clubhouse cancer - not the type of player you want on your bench, guys.

Some rebuilding team like San Diego should absolutely own him though. Fantastic post-post-post hype breakout candidate.

He's 27, is a league average hitter (career) with 20 HR power and some speed and defensive skill.

I'll never understand why he was moved off third base. He was a phenomenal defensive player at the position. *extremely Grant77 voice* UZR doesn't agree, but we all saw him here consistently and the eye-test was pretty clear.

Wow, he's only in his age-27 season. In his age-21 season he had a 163 wRC+ in 329 PA with no red flags in his profile at AAA. Then he came up and had a 157 wRC+ in the majors with elite 3B defense for 2.6 fWAR in 171 PA the majors.

He looked so ridiculously valuable going into his age-22 season. We reasonably thought we had a young superstar on our hands. Then it all fell apart.

Are Brett Lawrie and Jose Bautista even allowed to co-exist in the same clubhouse?

Brett might have to change his tune playing right next to the god he was traded for.

Which is probably another reason he wouldn't sign here. Ego is always involved.

They are friends and tweet each other all the time so probably. Howell loves our douche bags. That's why he signed here!

The White Sox were a sub-500 team last year. They just traded Chris Sale. They ARE a rebuilding team and they just dumped his ass. That means something.

Right, and without a spring PA. But they also just agreed to the $3.5M arbitration contract with him this offseason so as recently as a few months ago they kind of liked him.

Maybe it's injury related.

Maybe they've seen Moncada, Saladino (others) this spring and reevaluated and decided to eat a sunk cost? Remove a barrier in between Moncada and the throne, give Saladino a chance to start.

Kind of weird!

Either way, seems like a good time to have just dumped him on Cyborg in the LoD.

Oakland and Toronto made out well dealing Lawrie:

OAK got Graveman and Barreto out of the deal (Nolin will likely never play in the majors again with all the injuries, plus he's no longer in the A's org.). They also got JB Wendelken.. who is unproven, and non-prospect Zack Erin..

Jays got 2 ALCS trips and a MVP award for Donaldson.. Jays won the trade by a mile, though the A's might get something if Barreto pans out.

Actually, I'd also suggest that signing Lawrie to a big league contract would probably bring in far more in additional ticket sales than what his salary would be, given he was popular here and people will remember the good Lawrie more than the current (useful but less good) version. He could be valuable to us from that alone.

Cut Smoak, cut Zeke, sign Pagan, sign Lawrie, Pearce to 1b.

I really wish we could cut Smoak. But they aren't releasing him with 8 million owed to him. f*** that extension.

I went to several games during Lawrie's tenure and consistently heard negative things from surrounding fans. Lots of people would tell their non-baseball-fan friend that "this guy is a huge douche, I can't stand him" and stuff like that.

I don't think he would drive any ticket sales at all, lol.

Brett Lawrie is not a box office draw.

Keep Brett Lawrie the f*** out of Canada plz. Guy is not worth the headache. I'm genuinely shocked at how many people have interest in him.

Brett Lawrie does not move the needle regarding ticket sales.

OAK got Graveman, Barreto AND Lawrie for Donaldson so I don't know why you would count them in the Lawrie return. Wendelken and Erin is the only return they got for Brett Lawrie and that's nothing to write home about though I suppose it's better than the White Sox who just dumped him for nothing. You're clearly not very good at accounting but, on the bright side, at least you're not RealAccountant.

Arbitration contracts aren’t fully guaranteed until Opening Day, so the Sox will only be on the hook for about one-sixth of that salary (30 days’ termination pay) — or about $574K.

Factoid about arbitration contracts, guarantee

Hum... So they had all spring training to decide if they wanted to honour a pretty small contract and made the decision not to before his first PA. That's not a good sign.

The commercial breaks are perfect for taking a piss or grabbing something from the fridge. The commercials during the playoffs are almost 3x as long. The f*** is that about.

Good. That sack of s*** needs to get out of Bedrosian's way.

Pretty remarkable how long Street has been doing his closing gig on several different teams even though he sucks.
