Santoki Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 We've still got Barney and for the moment Goins for SS. I do agree we'd be in trouble if Tulo missed >50 games though, he's such a key player. How far along, realistically, is Urena? Is he on pace to be a September call up?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'll help - since this seemingly took me 6 months to master. Go to imgur.com, click "new post" at the top left hand order, click browse, upload your GIF from your GIF library, hover over the GIF and click on the down arrow, select "get share links", copy link under BBCode (Forums) and paste it in here... http://i.imgur.com/EGnGNCX.gif I'd love to know what website people use to fill their GIF library though. I just repost ones I save off this board....which is kinda lame. EDIT - hold F I take the long way around! I could never get the thing or the unclick this box thing to work consistently. your dumn
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 How far along, realistically, is Urena? Is he on pace to be a September call up? It's maybe a bit too early for either of them, but there is Gurriel as well. But either has a good season and yes, we could potentially see September call ups. They both need to succeed in a full season at AAA first though before we can count on them IMO.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Very interesting, and great to hear. I actually just checked his career and he has a wRC+ of 100, with a very respectable line of 244/322. Also, he seems to be a net positive defender at 1b. Actually it looks like he could be a 2 war player (if he stays healthy), that would be great! He had a bad swing when he was with the Pirates as well, so taking his career numbers isn't entirely fair. Point being, he's an excellent hitter and a decent defender. In my mind, if he stays healthy and plays every day, he'll put up 4+ WAR next season.

crmr Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It's very much in line with what he accomplished as recently as last season. I've always found it interesting when people get stuck on one year with half a season's worth of games. He's played somewhat close to a full year over the past 2, which gives about a full year of data to settle babip/iso noise, and he was about a 2.4 war player who is continuing to age. You could include his 2014 if you wish, but that seems to be a complete aberration in most of his metrics.

I won't shy away from the fact that I'm the high guy on Pearce, but he's got a serious Edwin/Bautista vibe to him. What if the Jays were better in 2009 and Bautista never got every day at bats? This is how I think of Pearce. Both came from the Pirates, both had s***** approaches at the plate. BTS mentioned Justin Turner as well, same thing. Some guys need to attack the ball out in front. Pearce is a pull hitter and he never should have shied away from that. I'm also taking his 2015 with a grain of salt, he got unlucky with batted balls and then it seemed as though he was pressing.

I think that's a big IF, but I certainly hope so, and think it is possible. I would love nothing more than 3-4 WAR from Steve Pearce FOR the Blue Jays.

I would have more trust in that narrative if he weren't going to be 34 at the start of next year. You're comparing him to guys significantly closer to their peaks.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Hey mods we need to get Steve Pearce in the banner somehow.
puphood Verified Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Would you rather they go expensive and then run some shitbags out in RF, LF & the 'pen? Or are you of the camp of rocketing the payroll to $170-180 and biting your tongue as an idiot fan about increased ticket prices while triple fisting $13 beers. Neither but since your handing out slurs the report is he MAYBE ready for spring ....which tells me that that is June so the Jays will be running your shitbags to the outfield for a while.
