Blitz Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) Just looking at his numbers last year with CWS - not bad considering he jumped in mid-season... LH bat with some pop, solid at 1B and would probably do a 1 or 2yr deal for reasonable money... Way better option than Smoak IMO... Thoughts??? Edited November 15, 2016 by Blitz Spelling
UWHabs Verified Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 92 wRC+ 1B? If we didn't have Smoak, then maybe he wouldn't be a horrible bat to have on the bench, but he's not really any better than Smoak.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 He's not better than Justin Smoak.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 He's not better than Justin Smoak. Probably debatable but not worth the effort to look.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 If your setting the bar at better than Smoak you are looking at a ton of options. So why not sign anybody!
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I wouldn't mind seeing Luis Valbuena in blue next season. 1B/3B and a solid lefty bat. Miles, miles better than Smoak. I don't think I'm all that interested in Morneau either, sadly.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Get some better transaction advocacy skills plz
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I would sign Justin Morneau.... On a MILB contract with an invite to spring training.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 He's Canadian. I bet he likes hockey
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Votto or bust This. f*** I'd love some Votto in my life
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Reds GM seems to think he can get a truckload of prospects and move his entire contract. That's never going to happen. He's a Red for life.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 He's not better than Justin Smoak. Smoak's not Canadian, so Morneau is better.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Smoak's not Canadian, so Morneau is better. Morneau has a career 116 wrc+...smoak's is 95. Even at 36 I'd take morneau over smoak and hope for a bounce back, but I really don't want either on the team.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Maple........boner Clap clap clap

Just so you know - he had a wRC+ of 136 in 2006....sign him now!

Justin Morneau: 2014: 550 PA 122 wRC+ 2.6 fWAR 2015: 182 PA 107 wRC+ 0.5 fWAR 2016: 218 PA 92 wRC+ 0.0 fWAR Steamers: 344 PA 95 wRC+ 0.3 fWAR Justin smoak: 2014 278 PA 78 wRC+ 0.7- fWAR 2015 328 PA 106 wRC+ 0.6 fWAR 2016 341 PA 90 wRC+ 0.1- fWAR Steamers: 540 PA 92 wRC+ 0.02 fWAR So in conclusion both are big hot piles of s***. If justin wants to sign a MILB deal to come here and compete with Smoak, sure why not? Not giving him any guaranteed contract though.
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Morneau's numbers are in Canadian though.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 He's not better than Justin Smoak. He's not even better then the press and hype and hope most had for Smoak before we saw and watched him play for us.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Morneau's numbers are in Canadian though. Exchange rate really kills his value.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I can't believe everybody has given up on Lind. One bad season (in Seattle), and everyone thinks he's dogshit. We could pick up his contract for $2 million, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if he surpassed both Smoak and Morneau.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I'd be open to signing Morneau to compete with Colabello for the Buffalo 1B job but that's where my interest ends.

Morneau was an above average hitter 2 of the last 3 years and an above average hitter in the past three years when you put them together. Smoak has been a below average hitter. I said I don't really want either, but I still think morneau will have better stats next year
